22-time grand-slam champion Rafael Nadal has crashed out of the Paris Masters after a second-round loss defeat against American Tommy Paul in just the Spaniard's first match since becoming a father.Â
Paul, who is currently ranked number 31 in the world, came from a set down to beat Nadal 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-1.
With the exception of a doubles match at Roger Federer's Laver Cup farewell, Nadal had not played since going out in the last 16 of the US Open two months ago following his battle with abdominal injury.
The defeat means the the 36 year old's hopes of ending the year as world number one suffer a huge blow.
The Paris Masters is the final regular ATP Tour event of the season, before the ATP Finals get under way in Turin on 13 November.
