EFCC Releases Ex-Gov Ortom After 10-Hour Grilling

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, after grilling him for over 10 hours, at its Makurdi office.

The former Governor had at about 10 am yesterday, reported at the Zonal Office of the Commission, following an invitation from the office.

It was gathered that Ortom was invited by the Commission to answer to allegations relating to his eight years of stewardship as Governor of the state.

After spending the entire day at the Commission, he was seen being driven out of the EFCC office in a Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, at about 7:55 pm, accompanied by some friends and associates who had waited patiently at a nearby hotel for his release.

Tinubu Returns NEMA, NAHCON To VP Office

President Bola Tinubu has approved the return of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to the office of the vice president for supervision.

During his second term, former President Muhammadu Buhari removed NEMA and NAHCON from the supervision of the Office of Vice President against extant laws.

NAHCON was placed under the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs; NEMA was under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development created in 2019.

A statement by the Director of Information in the Office of the Vice President, Olusola Abiola, said the President complied with various establishment Acts.

The president also approved a formal structure for the office of the vice-president as well as an appropriate number of technical and administrative aides that will work with the veepee in the discharge of his responsibilities.

Former Benue Governor Ortom Summoned And Interrogated By EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned and is currently interrogating Samuel Ortom, the former Governor of Benue State, as per reliable sources.

Ortom arrived at the EFCC's Makurdi zonal office on Alor Gordon Street at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The invitation was extended to Ortom to address inquiries related to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as a public official.

An undisclosed source confirmed that the former governor is currently present at the EFCC's Makurdi zonal office and has been cooperating with the officials. The nature and specifics of the allegations against Ortom have not been disclosed.

Efforts to reach the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, for comment on the matter were unsuccessful as he did not respond to phone calls or text messages from our correspondent.

Subsidy Removal: FG, Labour Fix 2 Months To Implement Resolutions

The representatives of the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) had resumed talks on the removal of fuel subsidy and agreed to set up a steering committee that would receive reports from other sub- committees within eight weeks.

They came to this conclusion after their latest round of discussions on measures to put in place to militate against the sufferings of Nigerians against the backdrop of the fuel subsidy removal.

Presidential Spokesperson, Dele Alake, briefed State House Correspondents after the meeting.

Also, the TUC President, Festus Osifo spoke on behalf of Organized Labour.

Labour had on June 5 suspended its planned nationwide strike over the removal of subsidy following the agreement reached with the Federal Government.

Present at the meeting are the delegation of the NLC, led by its President, Joe Ajaero; and the TUC, led by its President, Festus Osifo.

On the government side are the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, Zachaeus Adedeji; among others
