Niger Coupists Adamant As Deadline Expires

The military junta in Niger shows no signs of backing down as the one-week ultimatum given by ECOWAS to step down and allow President Mohamed Bazoum's return to office has expired.

Despite threats of regional military intervention, the coup plotters have garnered significant support from the civil population, with thousands rallying in Niamey and other major cities.

Amid the escalating crisis, the Nigerian Senate has passed a resolution urging President Bola Tinubu to engage in diplomatic efforts to address the political situation in Niger Republic.

Clarifying misconceptions, Senate President Godswill Akpabio stated that President Tinubu did not seek Senate approval for military deployment against the Coupists but instead sought approval for the implementation of ECOWAS resolutions as the Chairman.

Paris St-Germain, Kylian Mbappe, Striker Excluded from First Team Training

Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading goalscorer Kylian Mbappe will not train with the first-team squad when they step up preparations for the start of the Ligue 1 season on Monday.

The France forward has been in a contract stand-off with PSG amid a desire to join Real Madrid. His current contract expires next summer, and PSG are keen to sell him now and secure a transfer fee rather than let him go for nothing.

As a result, Mbappe was left out of PSG's touring squad for their pre-season trip to Asia. He subsequently refused to meet with representatives of Al-Hilal, who made a world record offer to bring him to the Saudi Pro League.

It is understood that Mbappe will now train with the 'loft' group, which is a group of players who are not seen as part of the club's first-team plans this season.

PSG sources say their most recent attempt to broker a solution to the situation was to offer Mbappe a guaranteed sale clause in his contract for the end of this season. This offer was rejected.

After years of underachievement at Champions League level with their 'galactico' model of signing superstar players, PSG are now going down a different path. They are understood to be close to completing a deal for Benfica's Goncalo Ramos, who scored a hat-trick for Portugal at last year's World Cup in Qatar.

PSG are expected to pay 80m euros (£69m) for the forward.

The situation with Mbappe is a complex one, and it is unclear what the next steps will be. However, it is clear that PSG are determined to sell him, and they are unlikely to back down from their demands.

What does this mean for PSG?

The decision to train Mbappe with the 'loft' group is a clear sign that PSG are no longer counting on him for the upcoming season. This is a significant development, as Mbappe is one of the best players in the world, and his absence will be a major blow to PSG's hopes of winning the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League.

It is also worth noting that PSG are close to completing a deal for Ramos, who is a talented young player with a lot of potential. This suggests that PSG are already looking to the future, and they are prepared to move on from Mbappe.

TikToker Sentenced to Three Years Imprisonment for Defaming Eniola Badmus

Okoye Blessing Nwakaego, a TikToker who defamed veteran actress Eniola Badmus by labeling her a pimp, has been handed a three-year prison sentence for cyberstalking.

The conviction came from Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, after Nwakaego pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court found her guilty of violating sections 24 (1) (b), (2) (a) (c), and 27 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015. However, Justice Oweibo granted her the option to pay a fine of ₦‎150,000 instead of serving time in jail.

The charges state that between December 2022 and July 2023 in Lagos, Nwakaego, along with an individual named Chimabia, who is currently at large, conspired to commit the cyberstalking crime.

The incident unfolded when the actress, Eniola Badmus, confronted Nwakaego in July after her defamatory video calling her a pimp circulated on social media for days.

Badmus' legal counsel claimed that the video caused significant harm to her client's public image. Consequently, Badmus had Nwakaego arrested on defamation grounds in the dead of night on July 22, 2023.

During her reprimand by the police, Nwakaego confessed that she made the defamatory statement against the actress to earn money for her rent. She further revealed that she was paid ₦200,000 by Chimabia to fabricate the false accusations against the star.

In her words, "So, one of my friends said if I should come out and talk about Miss Eniola Badmus that he was going to send me N200,000 because I told him about my rent. So that was what prompted the video in the first place. So I’m so sorry. I just did it because of the money. I was so desperate to pay my house rent.”
