FG Drops Contempt Charges Against NLC and TUC

In a recent development, the Federal Government has decided to retract its contempt lawsuit against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

This significant decision was communicated through a letter dated August 7th from the Federal Ministry of Justice. Addressed to the NLC and presented by their legal representative, Femi Falana (SAN), the letter explained that the contempt proceedings initiated against the Congress were no longer relevant due to subsequent events.

The letter, authored by Permanent Secretary Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, detailed that the Ministry had initiated the contempt proceedings following the nationwide protest organized by the NLC and TUC on the previous Wednesday.

However, the situation evolved after the interventions of President Tinubu and the National Assembly. These interventions prompted a change in the circumstances surrounding the case.

Confirming this development, NLC President Joe Ajaero acknowledged the withdrawal of the contempt suit in a recent interview. He also revealed that the lawmakers have extended an invitation to the Labour Congress for further negotiations, scheduled for today, Tuesday.

Ajaero took the opportunity to criticize the government's stance on the matter. He condemned the government for treating labour's protests as criminal actions while seemingly overlooking rallies that support the government's agenda. This disparity in treatment has drawn criticism from various quarters.

In conclusion, the decision by the Federal Government to withdraw the contempt suit against the NLC and TUC marks a significant turning point in the ongoing labour-related discussions. With negotiations scheduled to resume and the aftermath of the protests being reassessed, the landscape of the dialogue between the government and the unions appears to be shifting.

West Ham Bid Above £50m For Man Utd Pair Harry Maguire And Scott Mctominay

West Ham have made a combined bid worth more than £50m for Manchester United's Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.

The Hammers have yet to make a signing this summer despite selling Declan Rice to Arsenal in a deal that could end up being worth £105m. They are also in advanced talks with Ajax over 25-year-old Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez.

Meanwhile, Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca, 24, has left the club to join Atalanta for an undisclosed fee.
After Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen, there is greater momentum behind the Hammers' recruitment drive.

Whether West Ham can reach either the fee or salary requirements to conclude a deal for the Manchester United pair is open to question.

It is understood United would be open to a deal, but both England defender Maguire, 30, and Scotland midfielder McTominay, 26, are part of Erik ten Hag's squad and the club know they would need replacements for either if they were sold.

Scamacca spent one season with the Hammers having joined on a five-year contract from Sassuolo for £30.5m last July. He made 27 appearances and scored eight goals, including five strikes in their victorious Europa Conference League campaign.

Tottenham Reject Latest Bayern Munich Offer For England Captain

Tottenham have rejected Bayern Munich's latest offer for striker Harry Kane.

Bayern had hoped to agree a deal for the England skipper but it is understood the two sides remain apart in their valuation of the 30-year-old.

The Bundesliga champions had suggested if their bid for Kane was unsuccessful on this occasion they would move on to other transfer targets.

However, with over three weeks of the transfer window left, it remains to be seen whether that is the case.

Kane, who has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham in all competitions, skippered Spurs in Sunday's pre-season match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

He has one year left on his contract with Tottenham and there have been no indications Kane would be willing to extend it.

If chairman Daniel Levy elects to keep the England striker it would effectively be ending the club's last chance to cash in on their talisman.

Bayern officials met Levy last week but a deal was not struck. Bild claim personal terms with Kane have already been agreed.

Tottenham begin their Premier League campaign at Brentford on 13 August. Bayern start their season with a German Super Cup meeting with RB Leipzig a day earlier.

The transfer window does not close until 1 September, but both sides would prefer a resolution before the new season begins.
