Expectations Rise as President Tinubu Assumes Leadership of Petroleum Ministry

The oil industry workforce is voicing its anticipation for tangible outcomes as President Bola Tinubu oversees the Petroleum Ministry.

Following the tradition set by his predecessor, President Tinubu has appointed himself to lead the Petroleum Ministry. At the same time, former Senator Heineken Lokpobiri assumes the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources position.

The official swearing-in ceremony for the Ministers is scheduled for Monday at the State House Conference Center in Aso Villa, Abuja, with President Tinubu administering the oath.

According to a statement released by Willie Bassey, the Director of the Information Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, each Minister can bring two guests to the event.

Lagos State Government Takes Action: Greater Scholars International School Closed After Four-Year-Old's Defilement Incident

In response to the distressing incident of a four-year-old pupil being defiled, the Lagos State Government has taken decisive action by shutting down Greater Scholars International School, situated in Ajah. The incident involved the school's security guard, who allegedly committed the offence on April 27, 2023, while ostensibly helping the young pupil, named David James, with cleaning.

The accused, a 23-year-old individual named James, has been arraigned for the heinous act and is currently in custody. The legal proceedings unfolded before Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi at Magistrate’s Court 1 in Ogba. James faced a single count of sexual assault in the courtroom.

The victim's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olusola, had taken their concerns to the public eye on May 25, 2023, appealing to the state government to intervene and close the school. Their plea was conveyed during a protest held at the school's entrance. The demonstration saw a gathering of individuals carrying placards, including friends, family members, and representatives from non-governmental organizations. The protesters demanded justice for the child and the school's immediate closure.

Images circulated online on Wednesday, revealing that the state Ministry of Education had officially sealed the school's premises.

Mr. Olusola, the victim's father, approved this course of action, stating, 'This development signifies that the Lagos State Government is actively engaged and committed to upholding justice. We are gratified that justice will prevail.'

The ongoing legal proceedings related to the case are set to resume on September 4, 2023.

In his statement, he conveyed his gratitude to the President, saying, 'Thank you, Mr. President. On my honour, I promise not to disappoint.'

During the process of his ministerial screening, an incident arose in the Senate when Senator Darlington Nwokocha (LP, Abia Central) accused Keyamo of insulting lawmakers in the Ninth Assembly. The situation led to an uproar within the Senate chamber.

However, after Senate President Godswill Akpabio intervened and restored order, Keyamo apologized and explained the incident."
