Speculated Collaboration Between Atiku, Peter Obi, And Kwankwaso Dismissed By LP

Umar Farouk, the National Secretary of the Labour Party, has refuted recent claims suggesting a potential alliance between the party's Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and political figures Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Farouk unequivocally stated that the party has no intentions of merging with any other political entity.

Reports had surfaced indicating that Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria People’s Party were engaged in discussions aimed at establishing a potent coalition to challenge the current ruling party's dominance.

Farouk swiftly dismissed these claims, emphasising the lack of validity in the reports. He underscored that while Peter Obi possesses the right to form associations as a candidate, the Labour Party remains resolute in its decision not to pursue a merger with any other political group.

"Inaccurate," Farouk asserted, addressing the rumours. "It seems to be a product of creative imagination. The party has not received any such proposition. If any actions are underway, they might be on the part of Peter Obi as an individual candidate, within his rights to engage with whomever he chooses. However, as a collective party, merging with another political entity is not under consideration, and the Labour Party stands firm in its commitment against any merger."

Echoing Farouk's stance, Tai Obasi, media aide to Peter Obi, also weighed in on the matter during an interview. Obasi categorically denied any discussions regarding a potential merger involving his principal. He underscored that, at present, the primary focus is on awaiting the tribunal's judgment, making the merger idea premature.

"Such reports hold no factual basis," Obasi stated. "Why would merger talks even arise without the tribunal's decision? Are they contemplating merging as opposition factions? It seems unlikely. My principal, Peter Obi, has not indicated such discussions to me. While we respect Atiku and Kwankwaso, there has been no mention of merger talks on our part."

Obasi concluded by emphasising that there is no substantive foundation to the claims of a merger involving Peter Obi and other political figures. As the situation currently stands, the notion of a merger remains unsubstantiated and unsupported.

Exploring Collaborative AI Initiatives By African Scientists

A diverse group of content creators, including writers, editors, linguists, software engineers, and entrepreneurs, have shared their valuable insights, experiences, motivations, and challenges in the journey of establishing a robust foundation for language tools.

Engaging conversations with these stakeholders has underscored four pivotal elements that shape the design of language tools for African languages.

Firstly, the intricate fabric of Africa's multilingual landscape must be acknowledged, considering the lasting impact of historical colonization. Indigenous languages carry profound cultural significance while playing vital roles in education, politics, and economics. Secondly, fostering the development of African content stands as an imperative goal. This encompasses creating fundamental tools like dictionaries, spell checkers, and language-specific keyboards. It also involves dismantling financial and bureaucratic barriers that hinder translating government communications into multiple national languages, spanning the African linguistic spectrum.

Furthermore, the nexus of linguistics and computer science requires nurturing, as their synergy generates innovative solutions centred on human needs. Upholding ethical standards and engaging the community throughout data collection and utilization processes remain equally vital.

As the team advances, they will address potential obstacles hindering equitable access to this technology. Their comprehensive study is a roadmap for crafting various language tools, ranging from translation services to content moderation to combat misinformation.

"I envision a world where Africans can enjoy a quality of life and access to information and opportunities that are on par with individuals fluent in English, French, Mandarin, and other major languages," expresses Siminyu.

"The landscape of organizations invested in this realm is expanding, and our study provides a framework to synchronize efforts in constructing impactful language tools. The insights precisely outline priorities regarding time and financial investments," added Siminyu.

Warning Of Demolitions: Wike Threatens To Take Down Illegal Building

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has expressed an unwavering commitment to demolishing houses unlawfully erected within the nation's capital without regard for whose properties may be impacted.

Taking his oath of office alongside 44 newly appointed Ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Wike conveyed this message during a press briefing at the FCT Minister's office in Garki, Abuja.

They emphasise that structures designed to disrupt the Abuja Masterplan or constructed on green areas would not be spared.

Wike stated, "Regardless of ownership, any buildings compromising the integrity of the Abuja Masterplan will face demolition. If you've constructed where you shouldn't have, your property will be razed."

He continued, "This applies to Ministers, ambassadors, and anyone else. The parks will be reclaimed for those who have infringed upon green spaces. The green areas are non-negotiable. Disrespecting greenery signifies disrespect for oneself."

Responding to queries about potential motives behind the threat of demolitions, Wike remarked, "Let's be honest—people don't appreciate those who challenge the status quo. I will challenge it. Even those in high positions, I won't hesitate. If you're wrong, I will take the necessary actions." He clarified that he aimed to restore the FCT to its original state rather than pursuing a personal vendetta”.
