Nollywood Star Kate Henshaw Calls For The Discontinuation Of The NYSC Program

In the wake of distressing news regarding the abduction of eight National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Zamfara State, prominent actress Kate Henshaw has taken to Twitter to express her deep concerns about the safety of corps members and has called for a comprehensive reevaluation of the annual NYSC program.

Henshaw, known for her outspoken views, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs within the NYSC.

Henshaw emphasised that the program's integrity has been compromised, rendering it far less memorable and secure than when she participated. Her tweet conveyed her strong belief that the safety of corps members has been seriously compromised and that the time has come to consider the program's discontinuation. Her sentiments echo the concerns of many who fear for the safety of young graduates participating in the NYSC.

Reflecting on her own experience, Henshaw recalled her days of service in the North, where travelling from Bauchi to the airport by road and then flying to Lagos was a safe and uneventful journey, accomplished solely with her NYSC ID card that even earned her a ticket discount. In her view, the stark contrast in travel safety today underscores the urgent need for reform.

Henshaw minced no words in her tweet, stating, "It's time to SCRAP this idea since corpers can't travel within this country without LET OR HINDRANCE! Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas. Security is a priority and needs to be sorted totally, not technically."

The recent abduction incident involving eight NYSC members travelling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo to Zamfara State for their one-year national service further fueled the concerns. Three of the kidnapped corps members managed to escape the captors' clutches.

While Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press at the NYSC Headquarters, explained that the abducted graduates were travelling to their designated orientation camp when gunmen kidnapped them, Henshaw remains steadfast in her conviction that the program should be entirely reconsidered and potentially overhauled to ensure the safety and well-being of the young participants.

Umahi Assures Tinubu’s Prepared To Allocate Funds For High-Quality Road Infrastructure

Umahi Acknowledges Construction Cost as Key Challenge in Road Development

In a recent interview, Umahi openly recognized the substantial hurdle encountered in road development – the ever-increasing construction costs.

On Thursday, he delved into the heart of the matter, stating, "We are meticulously evaluating all these aspects. How can we mitigate these costs? Because at its core, the primary obstacle remains the construction expenditure."

"We're meticulously scrutinizing the financials, even though it appears that a considerable number of contractors might not be inclined towards change. Nonetheless, I will urge and impel them to embrace change – after all, we're all engineers here," he asserted with determination. "I am conveying to them that I am willing to safeguard your profit margins. But let's join forces for the greater good of Nigeria. Let's construct roads that stand the test of time. Interestingly, the government – with the President's backing – is ready to provide the necessary funding," added the former governor of Ebonyi State.

Yet, he couldn't help but lament the higher cost associated with concrete compared to asphalt. He highlighted that the quality of bitumen accessible and imported into Nigeria doesn't hold a candle to the standards set in the 1950s and 1960s.

The newly appointed Minister of Works, who assumed office on Monday, wasted no time getting to work. On Wednesday, he resolutely promised to revamp the Lokoja-Ajaokuta Road's design within two weeks. He affirmed that the rehabilitation of the road would kick off immediately, signalling a proactive stance towards addressing Nigeria's road infrastructure challenges.

NERC Urges Power Consumers To Update Meters

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued a crucial advisory to electricity consumers nationwide, urging them to take action and upgrade their prepaid meters before November 2024 to avoid any inconvenience.

This counsel comes in response to a power distribution company's notification, clarifying that those un-updated prepaid meters will cease to function starting from November of the following year. This aligns with the established international norm for prepaid electricity meters.

In a recent announcement shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) and observed on a Wednesday, the commission conveyed, "If you currently utilise a prepaid meter, the time might be ripe for an upgrade. As of November 2024, recharging your meter could become unfeasible without the necessary update. The process of upgrading is straightforward and comes at no cost."

The commission further elaborated, "Distribution companies (Discos) are set to initiate the distribution of two complimentary Key Change Tokens, designed to facilitate the meter update procedure. It's important to note that this upgrade will not impact the meter's existing unit balance or alter its standard operating speed. Don't hesitate to contact your Disco for more detailed information."

I want you to know that taking this advisory seriously and acting upon it promptly will ensure uninterrupted access to electricity services beyond the impending deadline. By adhering to this directive, consumers can avert any inconveniences associated with outdated prepaid meters.

Tolanibaj Refuses To End Ship With Neo On Bbnaija All Stars

The duo discussed their relationship in the All-Stars house. Neo expressed frustrations regarding the ship, explaining that it was becoming overwhelming to keep up with.

He said, "It is getting too much... I no wan do too much. Even me self I dey do like say I no wan ship but I dey ship".

But the feeling of separation wasn't mutual for Tolanibaj, who isn't interested in ending what they have.

She said, "You see this thing you want to quit; I'm not quitting it o... You can quit it on your side".

She also expressed confidence about their relationship and implored him to see the current situation as something that will pass. She said, " I think this is one of the many or few obstacles that we are going to walk on".

This attempt to break up comes after loads of drama between them and other BBNaija All Stars individually or as a duo. But a recent one that seemed to break the ice for both of them was the argument between Tolanibaj and Ilebaye on Monday, August 22, 2022.

Neo scolded Tolanibaj for confronting Ilebaye about respecting their relationship boundaries. He had also voiced out feeling disrespected by the ordeal, but it wasn't the first time Tolanibaj was doing something of this sort. She has had several clashes with Ilebaye on the same issue.

However, Tolanibaj and Neo made up quite quickly as they were seen kissing and hugging after the conversation. It is safe to say that the break-up fire is off for now, but the two keep painting a façade in front of other housemates that they weren't an actual couple.
