Federal Roads Take Priority: Unveiling FG’s New Intervention Program

During a recent tour of ongoing road projects in Lagos and Ogun States, Minister of Works David Umahi announced a significant government focus on the upkeep of federal roads nationwide.

Specifically, he highlighted the impending attention to the Third Mainland Bridge, a crucial artery connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland.

Umahi, a seasoned civil engineer, conducted a comprehensive assessment involving surface and underwater investigations. Together with a team of engineers and top officials from the Federal Ministry of Works, he embarked on a boat journey from Ebute Ero Jetty to examine the structural components of bridges traversing the Lagoon closely.

The tour included inspections of the Third Mainland Bridge, the Carter Bridge, and the Eko Bridge. Expressing concern about the deteriorating condition of the bridges' underwater structural elements, Umahi emphasised the pressing need for emergency intervention. Notably, the Third Mainland Bridge, the oldest among the three, faces significant deterioration that necessitates immediate action.

To address the situation, the minister revealed that a budget of N60 billion had already been approved for comprehensive maintenance work above and below the bridges. Umahi stressed the importance of a detailed reevaluation of the underwater conditions to understand the extent of the challenges. To minimise motorist disruptions, a contractor will be mobilised to conduct repair work on the Third Mainland Bridge between midnight and 4:00 a.m.

Furthermore, Umahi unveiled plans to enhance the security infrastructure and surveillance around these critical bridges to deter vandalism. A comprehensive proposal outlining these security measures, along with the necessary maintenance plans, will be compiled by a consultant. This proposal is expected to be presented to the Federal Executive Council for consideration within the next 30 days.

In conclusion, Minister Umahi's recent tour and subsequent announcements underscore the government's commitment to prioritising the maintenance of federal roads, particularly vital bridges. The emergency intervention plan for the Third Mainland Bridge, coupled with proposed security enhancements, aims to ensure the longevity and safety of these crucial transportation arteries.

You’ll Benefit From Tinubu’s Decisions - Tony Elumelu

Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings and Transcorp Plc, has urged Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the president has demonstrated a commitment to making decisions that benefit the nation's welfare.

Following a private meeting with President Tinubu on August 29, 2023, at the State House in Abuja, Elumelu conveyed that the private sector is appreciative of the measures taken by the President thus far.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Elumelu underscored the potential benefits that would eventually accrue to Nigerians, particularly women and youth, from the decisions made by President Tinubu. He highlighted the importance of empowerment, job creation, and inclusive policies that engage the nation's diverse demographics.

Elumelu expressed, "The private sector is encouraged by the bold decisions President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken, and we hope that in the fullness of time, Nigerians will benefit from it because it's all about the Nigerian people; it's all about our youths, it's all about making sure our women are involved and empowered. It's all about ensuring our youths get jobs, and I think Mr President has this at the back of his mind. As a private sector person, I believe that the actions and decisions the President is currently making will ultimately serve our people in the long run."

In a call for patience and understanding, Elumelu drew a parallel to the adage that "Rome was not built in a day." This message resonates as he appeals to citizens to appreciate the complexity of governance and the time required for policies to yield their intended positive outcomes.

They Deserved It – Bobrisky Reacts To Arrest Of Gay Suspects In Delta

Controversial Nigerian transgender and socialite Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has weighed in on the recent mass arrest of individuals suspected of being involved in a same-sex wedding ceremony in Delta State.

According to reports, the Delta State Police Command apprehended 67 suspects on Tuesday over allegations of conducting a same-sex wedding event. Responding to this incident, Bobrisky took to his Instagram page to address the matter as many followers sought his perspective.

In his statement, Bobrisky stressed that he believed the arrest was justified due to Nigeria's prevailing law prohibiting men from marrying each other. He highlighted the importance of understanding the legal framework and the social context before engaging in such actions.

In his own words, he expressed, "Hey guys, I want to address those individuals who were arrested in Delta quickly. This lifestyle isn't suitable for everyone, but I believe everyone can learn from these circumstances. Firstly, there's a law in place that prohibits same-sex marriages in this country. Why did you all gather to organise a wedding defying this law? The consequences you faced were in line with your actions."

Bobrisky offered a pragmatic suggestion, stating, "If you genuinely love your partner and want to be together, why not consider relocating to a place where you'll be accepted?"

As societal perspectives continue to evolve on these matters, Bobrisky's comments underline the situation's complexity and the importance of adhering to the existing legal framework while advocating for broader understanding and acceptance.
