Hamilton And Russell Extend Mercedes Contracts

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will continue as Mercedes' driver line-up for at least the next two years.

Hamilton has signed a new contract that will extend his period with the team to 13 years and keep him in F1 well past his 40th birthday.

And Russell, who joined Mercedes in 2022, has also signed a two-year deal.

The move confirms pledges by Hamilton and team principal Toto Wolff that a new deal for the seven-time champion was only a matter of time this season.

For Hamilton, it allows him to continue a quest for a record eighth-world drivers' title, which both driver and team believe was robbed from them at the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton lost out to Red Bull's Max Verstappen after former FIA race director Michael Masi ignored the rules in operating a late-race safety car period.

Since then, Mercedes have fallen from competitiveness as Red Bull has dominated the sport.

Peter Obi’s Campaign Coordinator In Bayelsa Leaves LP To PDP

In a significant political move, Mr. Alagoa Morris, the Bayelsa Coordinator of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), has officially switched his allegiance from the Labour Party (LP) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Known for his dedicated advocacy in Environmental Rights, Morris made this transition known during a press announcement in Yenagoa on Thursday, just ahead of the upcoming Bayelsa Governorship Election scheduled for November 11.

Expressing his rationale behind this shift, Morris pointed out that Governor Duoye Diri's achievements extend beyond what is commonly known, prompting his decision to throw his support behind the Governor's re-election bid. "I have chosen to stand by the incumbent governor due to his exemplary track record compared to other prominent contenders," Morris affirmed.

After closely evaluating all candidates in the fray for the November 11 election, he emphasised that Governor Diri's credentials and accomplishments stand head and shoulders above the rest. Morris clarified that while he wasn't a member of the Labour Party before he was appointed the state coordinator, his duties in that capacity had concluded, and life has moved forward since.

Recounting his recent interactions with Governor Douye Diri, Morris expressed his conviction that it's crucial to back the Governor's ongoing efforts. He explained, "In the context of each incoming administration claiming to inherit empty coffers, supporting a leader like Diri, who is already collaborating with development partners and stakeholders, becomes imperative."

Morris hailed Diri's substantial but often undisclosed achievements, shedding light on the Governor's commendable endeavors. "Governor Diri's contributions are far-reaching and often remain outside the public eye. His dedication to progress is evident, and as a result, rallying behind his continuity is essential," Morris concluded, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the Governor's re-election bid.
