The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has entered the second day of its two-day warning strike, protesting the Federal Government's failure to address the challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidies.
Despite Minister of Labour Simon Lalong's attempt to convene a meeting to address the union's concerns, the NLC refused to participate, leading to the Trade Union Congress (TUC) attending the meeting in their stead. The NLC directed its affiliate unions to join the strike in solidarity.
Reports indicate that several government ministries, departments, and agencies in Abuja have closed their doors in compliance with the strike. This trend has extended across various states, with monitoring groups ensuring members and government offices comply with the strike.
However, in Lagos, the impact of the industrial action at the Lagos State Secretariat appeared minimal as workers continued with their regular activities. Correspondent Nifesimi Olabiyi conducted an assessment and noted that there was only partial compliance with the strike in the state.
