Victor Osimhen Scores Hat-Trick As Super Eagles Thrash Sao Tome 6-0

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick on Sunday to lead the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 6-0 annihilation of Sao Tome & Principe in their final 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Osimhen opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute of the game after heading in from a corner kick off the boot of Leicester City winger Kelechi Iheanacho.

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman made it 2-0 in favour of Nigeria in the 27th minute after being set up by Wilfred Ndidi.

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi got a goal in the early minutes of the second half to extend the Super Eagles' lead to three.

Osimhen got his brace via a penalty after the Sao Tome goalkeeper brought him down.

AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze laid on a superb assist for Osimhen to score his hat-trick, making it 5-0 to Nigeria.

Chukwueze then went from provider to scorer after netting the Super Eagles’ sixth goal courtesy of an assist from Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface as Nigeria ended the AFCON qualifiers in style at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The Super Eagles also finished as group leaders with 15 points from six matches ahead of Guinea Bissau, as both countries will be playing at the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.

Djokovic Wins Record-Equaling 24th Grand Slam Title

Novak Djokovic won a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam singles title by outlasting Daniil Medvedev in a punishing US Open final in New York.

The 36-year-old Serb won 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3, but the straight-set score line does not tell how deep he had to dig.

A comfortable opening set was followed by a brutal second, which lasted one hour and 44 minutes.

After exchanging breaks early in the third, Djokovic took control to level Margaret Court's 50-year record.

"It obviously means the world to me," said Djokovic, winning his 24th major.

"I'm really living my childhood dream to compete at the highest level in this sport, which has given me and my family so much from difficult circumstances.

"I never thought I would be here, but the last few years, I thought I had a shot at history. Why not grab it when it is presented?"

Second seed Djokovic looked physically troubled in that gruelling second set but showed all the hallmarks of his greatness to win a fourth US Open title.

Djokovic, who surpassed Rafael Nadal's record tally of 22 men's major titles earlier this year, has matched Australia's Court at the second attempt after losing the Wimbledon final in July.

He has won three of the four Grand Slam titles in 2023, becoming the first man to achieve this feat on four occasions.

Now, the incoming world number one has the chance to surpass Court at January's Australian Open - where he has already won a record ten titles.

It felt fitting that Djokovic set up championship point by winning another lengthy rally and, after being made to wait to serve by shouts from the crowd, sealed victory when Medvedev hit a forehand into the net.

This development comes at a crucial time when Nigerians and businesses face challenges in obtaining foreign currencies. These limitations have also hindered macroeconomic growth and personal financial aspirations, making it challenging for individuals to tap into global opportunities to their full potential.

Beyond being the CBN-approved digital platform for facilitating currency exchanges, Swap is designed to ensure that every transaction is seamless, secure, and financially rewarding. This empowerment will grant consumers greater purchasing power and offer businesses substantial investment potential.

In addition, Flutterwave plans to introduce a convenient card issuance system for Swap users, allowing rapid access to global currencies such as Dollars, Euros, and British Pounds. This move, set to commence in October 2023, aims to distribute over 10 million cards to Nigerians. It will greatly benefit individuals seeking swift access to Personal Travel Allowance (PTA) and Business Travel Allowance (BTA) to support their educational pursuits, business ventures, and diverse travel needs.

Olugbenga 'GB' Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, expressed his enthusiasm about the product launch, emphasising their commitment to simplifying financial processes for endless possibilities. He stated, "Swap represents a significant leap forward in how Nigerians engage with foreign exchange. APC Leader Emphasizes PEPC Judgment Grounded In Facts, Not Emotions

In a virtual news conference held on Thursday, Mr. Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and a seasoned lawyer, emphasized that the judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday was rooted in factual analysis, not driven by emotions.

Onokpasa stated that the petitioners had based their legal challenge to President Bola Tinubu's election victory on sentiments rather than substantial evidence, ultimately making the entire court process futile.

He expressed his disappointment, asserting, "The petitioners wasted our time as Nigerians asked the court's and lawyers' time. The position of the law is not sentimental but factual."

As a former member of the dissolved APC Presidential Campaign Council, Onokpasa noted that there were attempts to undermine and pressure the judiciary during the PEPC proceedings, but these efforts proved unsuccessful.

He also highlighted the significance of the ruling regarding the allocation of 25 per cent votes in Abuja, a decision that was met with much contention. According to him, this ruling established equal representation for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alongside other states, dispelling any notion of unequal citizenry based on location.
