INEC To Conduct Re-Run, Bye-Elections February 2024

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it will conduct rerun and bye-elections across the country in February next year to fill existing vacancies in the state and federal legislatures.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated this at a meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja.

According to Yakubu, the courts ordered the commission to conduct rerun elections in 34 federal and state constituencies: one in the Senate, 11 federal constituencies, and 22 state constituencies.

He stated that the reruns would be held alongside bye-elections, noting that political parties must conduct fresh primaries within the limited time provided by law.

He added that the commission is looking at the first week of February to conduct the re-run and bye-elections.

Fubara, Wike Sign Agreement To Resolve Rivers Crisis After Tinubu’s Intervention

The political crisis in Rivers State may have been put to rest after Rivers State governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, signed a truce agreement at a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa yesterday.

Also present at the meeting were Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, former River’s governor, S, and some traditional rulers from the state.

The rift between Wike and Fubara had split lawmakers in the House, with 27 of them decamping from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The rift also saw the emergence of the parallel house of assembly sittings, an impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a gale of resignations of some commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.

Following the meeting, the warring parties agreed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team be withdrawn immediately.

It was also agreed that all impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor by the Rivers State House of Assembly be dropped immediately, and all parties recognise the leadership of Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers State House of Assembly, amongst others.

The two camps also agreed to recognise the 27 lawmakers who recently resigned from the PDP to the APC.

Callers on Inspiration FM’s breakfast show, The Big Story, shared their opinions on the development.

My Ex-Wife Made Me Lose My Properties And Kids After Accusing Me Of Assault – Emeka Ike

Emeka Ike, the seasoned Nollywood actor, has shared the distressing story of how allegations made by his estranged wife, Suzanne Emma, resulted in the loss of his properties and access to his children. The dissolution of their marriage occurred in 2017 at a Lagos Island Customary Court, primarily due to persistent cases of battery.

Suzanne Emma had initially approached the court on July 13, 2015, seeking to end their 14-year-long marriage, which had produced four children. In a recent interview on the Channels Television program Rubbin’ Minds hosted by Hero Daniels, Emeka Ike disclosed that the assault accusations made by his ex-wife led to the loss of properties valued at millions of naira.

The actor explained that he refrained from addressing the domestic violence allegations online because those criticizing him were prevalent on social media. Emeka Ike expressed the difficulty in clarifying the situation, stating, “I didn’t come on the internet space to clarify the allegations against me because it’s difficult to clarify because the same people that were bullying me on the internet, they were still there. They are gonna say, ‘Don’t mind him. He is still missing her. Move on.’”

He continued to share the impact of the accusations on his life, revealing that his secondary school, St. Nicholas College in Magodo, was shut down, resulting in a loss of over N480 million in investment. Despite denying the allegations, he faced severe consequences.

Emeka Ike recounted a conversation with his ex-wife, during which she admitted that he was not the marriage type. He highlighted the desperation of some individuals for legal matrimony, emphasizing that young men should be cautious.

The actor disclosed that he financially supported his ex-wife's higher education but realized later that the love was not reciprocated. Despite pleas from him and his family members, Suzanne Emma insisted on divorce. In an emotional recollection, Emeka Ike described the scene in court where even those accompanying his ex-wife were on their knees, bewildered by her determination to end the marriage.

Emeka Ike expressed his belief that his ex-wife was coerced or blackmailed by some unknown individuals, referred to as "gunmen," into seeking a divorce. The actor's revelations shed light on the challenges he faced during the turbulent period of his marriage dissolution.
