Tinubu Orders Investigation Into Reoccurring Boat Accidents In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation into the recurring boat accidents in the country.

This is contained in the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity statement to the President, Ajuri Ngelale.

President Tinubu said government agencies would be held accountable for any regulatory or safety lapses and directed that safety measures and enforcement must be carried out on boating activities in the country.

The president directed various government agencies, including law enforcement, maritime safety and transportation safety authorities, to collaborate to identify the causes of these unfortunate and preventable disasters.

President Tinubu also assured the affected families and communities of his continued support and commitment to preventing such tragic incidents in the future.

About 41 people have died in three boat mishaps in Niger and Adamawa States within the past week.

Tinubu Returns To Abuja After Diplomatic Visits To India, UAE

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after week-long working visits to India and the United Arab Emirates, UAE.

President Tinubu visited New Delhi in India for the eighteenth G20 Summit and the UAE for Diplomatic Intervention.

While in India, the President met with private Investors, Nigerians, and other world leaders to discuss global issues such as climate change, security and Nigeria’s economy in particular.

In the UAE, President Tinubu met with his UAE counterpart, Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to resolve diplomatic disputes, including the Visa Ban and resumption of flights in and out of both countries.

Upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, President Tinubu was welcomed by a high-level delegation of government officials led by the Vice President.

Speaking after his arrival, spokesperson to the president Ajuri Ngelale spoke on the profits of President Tinubu's visit to India and the UAE.

Tunji-Ojo: Immigration Clears 60,000 Passport Backlog In Four Days

The minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, says the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has cleared about 60,000 passport backlogs in four days.

The minister spoke when the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Betta Edu, paid him a courtesy visit to the office in Abuja.

He said the number was out of the over 200,000 pending passport applications.

The minister had directed the NIS to ensure the clearance of all pending passport applications within two weeks.

In a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Alao Babatunde, the minister restated that he would clean up the passport crisis in the country.

Air Peace, in a statement by its Chief Operating Officer, Oluwatoyin Olajide, has revealed plans to launch direct flights from Lagos and Kano to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, beginning October 31.

The route will be serviced by Boeing 777 aircraft, offering three days of operation weekly, with potential connections from Abuja. The airline expresses gratitude to travel agents and emphasizes its commitment to optimizing the new route for all travellers.

Oluwatoyin Olajide stated, "In the first half of this year, we launched two major international destinations- Mumbai and Tel Aviv- and now we are gearing up for Jeddah next month. This does not only signals growth and expansion for the airline but also demonstrates our firm commitment to reducing the burden associated with connecting cities with stopovers. We promise direct connectivity, which is evident in our international route network. We offer direct flights at affordable fares."

Abdulrazak Ibrahim, Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies, Northern Zone, applauded Air Peace for this strategic move and reiterated the association's support. He encouraged the airline to continue leading the way in enhancing route connectivity within Nigeria and beyond.
