Popular Nollywood Actor Pa Yemi ‘Suara’ Adeyemi Has Passed Away

The esteemed Nollywood actor Pa Yemi Lawrence Adeyemi affectionately referred to as Saura, has sadly left us. His son, Adetoun Adeyemi, made the announcement in an official statement on Monday, September 25, 2023.

As stated in the release, the actor peacefully transitioned on Sunday, September 24, 2023. However, details surrounding the circumstances of his passing were not disclosed. The family has asked for privacy during this mourning period and will share details about the funeral arrangements at an appropriate time.

The statement conveyed, “With heavy hearts and a profound submission to God, we inform you of the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Oluyemi Lawrence Adeyemi (Suara), who peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 24th, 2023. We find comfort in knowing that he now rests in peace. During this time of grieving, we request privacy. Further information about the funeral arrangements will follow.”

The late actor earned the moniker 'Saura' following his role in the widely acclaimed Super Story series, "Oh Father! Oh Daughter!" where he portrayed a polygamist, sharing the screen with the celebrated actresses Bukky Wright and Sola Shobowale, who played his first and second wives, respectively.

Regrettably, Saura is not the sole legend to depart in 2023. Nollywood mourned the loss of veteran Cynthia Okereke in July 2023, who passed away at 63. Additionally, the iconic Pa Akintola Williams, Nigeria's first chartered accountant, left us this year on September 11, 2023, at 104. The nation grieved the loss of this remarkable figure but found comfort in the knowledge that he had lived a long and fulfilling life.

May the departed souls continue to rest in eternal peace.

Ondo Assembly Serves Deputy Gov Impeachment Notice

Ondo State Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has filed a suit at the Ondo State High Court to halt the State’s House of Assembly’s impeachment proceedings against him.

He urged the court to grant an injunction stopping the House of Assembly from initiating, continuing, or proceeding with the process of his removal from office.

The Ondo Assembly, last week, wrote to Aiyedatiwa to answer issues raised in a petition signed by nine lawmakers.

The petition included inquiries into Aiyedatiwa’s attempt to procure a bulletproof Vehicle For The Sum Of N300 Million During Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s medical absence.

In the suit filed yesterday, September 25, Aiyedatiwa seeks a declaration that the House of Assembly is not competent to proceed with his impeachment in breach of his constitutional and fundamental rights to a fair hearing.

He prayed the court to declare that his office, tenure, status, rights, and privileges were protected, guaranteed, and secured by the Constitution.

Inec Fixes Date For Mock Accreditation Ahead Of Bayelsa, Imo And Kogi Governorship Elections

INEC to Conduct Trial Voter Accreditation for Upcoming Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing for a trial voter accreditation ahead of the Governorship Elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States. According to a statement by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC, this trial run is set to occur concurrently in the three states on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Olumekun clarified that this exercise comes after a comprehensive review of preparations for the off-cycle Governorship elections scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023. The trial accreditation will utilise the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the uploading of polling unit results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

A maximum of three polling units in each Senatorial District have been identified across the three states, totalling nine Senatorial Districts and 27 polling units. Insights gained from this exercise will be instrumental in streamlining the process for the actual Election Day.

INEC emphasised that this accreditation trial is a purely experimental, not the official election. Registered voters within the selected polling units are urged to participate by presenting their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) during the trial.
