Lagos Vows To Demolish More Structures On Drainage Channels

The Lagos State Government recently shut down public places such as markets over environmental hazards and dirty environments, and many Nigerians and groups have been talking about the issue.

The State Government said it arrested about 30 environmental offenders for improper waste disposal and disregarding the state Environmental Laws.

In a statement, the Director of Public Affairs in the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Folashade Kadiri, said the action continues the state’s avowed zero-tolerance policy on dirty environment.

Speaking about this on a monitored programme, the Environment and Water Resources Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, defended the government’s action.

Also, in an interview with Inspiration FM, the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Conservative Foundation, Oladapo Shoneye, commended the state government for the step.

Government Representatives Secure Official Vehicles Amid Economic Challenges

Amid the harsh economic reality that Nigerians currently face, worsened by the removal of fuel subsidies, the House of Representatives has announced its finalized plans to distribute official vehicles for members of the 10th National Assembly.

In a statement, the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman, Akin Rotimi, said the management is procuring and distributing the vehicles to the members over the coming weeks and months.

According to Akin Rotimi, this development is by extant procurement laws and has been practiced in previous assemblies.

He stressed that this is not peculiar to the Legislature, as unelected government officials in the Executive arm of government, from the Assistant Director level and above, in most cases, have official vehicles attached to their offices.

Ex-PSG Boss Galtier Takes Job In Qatar

Former Paris Saint-Germain coach Christopher Galtier has quickly returned to management, leading Qatari team Al Duhail three months after parting ways with the French champions.

Galtier, who secured the Ligue 1 title with PSG, left the club following a challenging second half of the season. The closing stages of his tenure were overshadowed by accusations of racism related to his previous position at Nice. Despite vehemently denying these allegations, he is scheduled to stand trial in December.

Al Duhail welcomes Galtier, who will take charge of a squad that includes former Liverpool and Barcelona playmaker Philippe Coutinho. He steps into the role left vacant by Hernan Crespo; the ex-Argentina international who guided Al Duhail to a league victory last season.

Galtier's new challenge includes leading Al Duhail against Al Nassr, a team featuring stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane, in the Asian Champions League group stage, set to kick off later this month. Al Duhail currently holds one point from two matches in the competition.
