FEC: Tinubu Swears In Three More Ministers

President Bola Tinubu administered the oath of office to three newly appointed ministers during a Monday morning ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The sworn-in ministers, Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Ayodele Olawande, and Balarabe Lawal, took their oaths at 12:15 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the State House. This solemn event took place just before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by President Tinubu himself.

Including these ministers in the Cabinet follows their successful screening by the Senate on October 4, 2023, almost two weeks ago. President Tinubu nominated Jamila Bio Ibrahim as the Minister of Youth and Ayodele Olawande as the Minister of State for Youth on September 17, 2023. Additionally, he requested the Senate's screening and approval of Balarabe Lawal as the Minister representing Kaduna.

Balarabe Lawal, who previously held the position of Secretary to the Government under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, now steps into the role of Minister of Environment in President Tinubu's cabinet, succeeding his former principal.

Jamila Bio Ibrahim, aged 37, hails from Kwara State and boasts a diverse background as a medical doctor, politician, development expert, and advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Before her recent appointment, she served as the National President of the APC Young Women Forum.

Ayodele Olawande, aged 34, is a seasoned community development expert and a prominent youth leader within the All-Progressives Congress. Before his nomination, Olawande served as a special adviser on innovation to former President Muhammadu Buhari, holding this position from 2019 to 2023. He also served in the office of Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Before the commencement of the meeting, the Council paused to observe a minute's silence in memory of Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, who passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 96. Ajose-Adeogun was appointed Minister of Federal Capital during the Murtala Mohammed military regime in 1976, serving in this capacity until 1979.

This gathering marked the second Federal Executive Council meeting since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, reflecting the ongoing development and governance under his leadership.

NIPOST Staff Reject CEO Appointed By Tinubu, Shut Down Head Office

Workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have staged a protest by closing the service's head office in Abuja in opposition to the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as the Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General.

Last week, Ajuri Ngelale, a Presidential spokesman, announced that President Bola Tinubu had altered the leadership of various communication agencies, including NIPOST.

However, there was immediate confusion as reports emerged that the previously removed Postmaster General, Adeyemi Adepoju, had been reinstated. In a viral video, Adepoju addressed some workers who claimed that Tinubu had reappointed him.

In a statement released by NIPOST on Friday, Adepoju alleged that President Bola Ahmed had reinstated him as the Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST. The statement cited Adepoju's exemplary leadership and outstanding performance during his previous tenure as the basis for his reinstatement.

On Monday, the protesting workers prevented the newly appointed NIPOST CEO from entering the premises, expressing their strong disagreement with her appointment.

Nigeria Inflation Climbs To 26.72%

Nigeria's inflation rate has surged to 26.72 per cent, representing a 0.92 per cent rise compared to the previous month's 25.80 per cent, as the National Bureau of Statistics reported in its latest Consumer Price Index for September 2023.

This increase can be largely attributed to the elimination of petrol subsidies and the devaluation of the official exchange rate, both significantly affecting consumer prices.

October 16, 2023 Lagos Govt Seals Hospital For Transfusing Patients With Unscreened Blood

Lagos Govt Seals Hospital For Transfusing Patients With Unscreened Blood

Dr. Bodunrin Osikomaiya, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS), has announced the closure of a medical facility due to unlawful and unprofessional medical practices, putting citizens' lives at risk.

This development comes after a concerned citizen's tip-off led to joint efforts between LSBTS and the state Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA).

The facility was sealed for violating blood transfusion service laws, engaging in unethical medical practices, and endangering patients' well-being. According to Osikomaiya, the law stipulates that blood cannot be transfused into a patient in Lagos State unless it has been properly screened, tested, labelled by the state blood transfusion committee, and found negative for transmissible diseases, including HIV I and II, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, and other relevant conditions.

To address the situation, the blood donors' and transfusion recipients' information from the facility has been obtained, and efforts are underway to trace patients who received unscreened blood units to assess their clinical health status.

Osikomaiya emphasised that the hospital's management and involved staff will face prosecution by the law. The LSBTS is committed to combatting unethical blood transfusion practices and urges citizens to report violations.

Health workers and stakeholders in the blood transfusion process, including blood banks, donation centres, and logistics firms, are encouraged to adhere to WHO regulations and the state's Blood Transfusion laws to ensure a safe and responsible blood transfusion chain.

Osikomaiya concluded by stating that the LSBTS will intensify its efforts in monitoring all facilities involved in blood transfusion to guarantee the safety of all residents in the state.
