Reasons You Should Take More Oranges

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what of oranges?

Oranges are one of the cheapest and most common fruit in Nigeria today. They also add many benefits to one’s health.

Here are five reasons you should take more oranges;

One orange is the equivalent of half cup of water. Men are supposed to take roughly four litres of water, and women should drink about three litres of water in a day.

Drinking enough water helps your metabolism, organs, helps with weight loss and gives you energy.

Oranges contain Vitamin C. Topical Vitamin C or oral Vitamin C works like magic on your skin. They protect the skin from free radicals that can cause wrinkles and skin damage.

Oranges possess carotenoids, and this keeps the mucus membrane healthy thus maintaining almost perfect eyesight.

Macular degeneration also affects eyesight as people age; oranges reduce damage ageing brings.

Another nutritional component of oranges is Vitamin B6 and magnesium. These nutrients promote good blood health. Vitamin B6 increases the production of haemoglobin which regulates blood pressure.

5 Reasons You Should Take More Oranges

Oranges are a source of soluble and insoluble fibre. If you are feeling constipated or have irritable bowel, oranges help with the smooth running of the stomach.

Taking whole oranges is better than drinking packaged orange juice. You might be fooled into thinking that drinking orange juice is just as good as an actual orange but they are packed with calories and preservatives that are not so healthy.

Freshly squeezed orange juice is better.

Eat these foods if you have stomach ulcers.

Stomach ulcers are caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and the use of painkillers called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

The food you eat when you discover that you have a stomach ulcer makes a world of difference in preventing pain and ensuring it doesn’t exacerbate.

Honey is a miraculous elixir gotten from the nectar of bees. Honey contains certain antibacterial and antioxidant qualities that stops H. Pylori bacteria growth.

Garlic has a bad aftertaste and smell, so you do not have to chew it raw. Using garlic in meals; taking garlic tea or garlic extract or supplements is a viable option.

Ask your doctor to be sure that garlic does not conflict with any other medication you might be on.

3. Greens and Vegetables

Many vegetables like broccoli, collard greens, spinach and vegetables contain vitamin A and vitamin A increases mucus in the gastrointestinal tract which is good if you have an ulcer.

4. Cranberry juice

Cranberries contain polyphenols that are good for your all-around health, but when it comes to your stomach, they reduce the rate at which H. Pylori is produced and also reduce inflammation in your stomach lining.

Yoghurts are also called probiotics. Yoghurts are high in dietary fibre. Probiotics contain bacteria and yeasts which are microorganisms that your stomach needs to prevent the growth of H. Pylori.
