Portable Granted Bail After Passing Night In Police Cell

The Lagos State Police Command has released Portable, the popular street singer also known as Habeeb Okikiola, after he spent a night in police custody. Portable was apprehended on Tuesday in the Abule Egba area of Lagos for allegedly failing to settle the outstanding balance on a G-Wagon vehicle he purchased from a car dealer.

Reports indicate that the 'Zazoo Zeh' artist bought the vehicle valued at ₦27 million but only paid ₦13 million, leaving a balance of ₦14 million. In a video that went viral, Portable was seen climbing over a gate when approached by policemen with an arrest warrant. Another video depicted him being forcibly dragged, handcuffed and pushed into a waiting vehicle by about four policemen. During the commotion, the voice of a woman, purportedly the car dealer, was heard in the background, expressing anger and recounting how Portable allegedly threatened her when she demanded payment of the debt.

The Police spokesperson in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Portable was released on bail on Wednesday after spending Tuesday night in custody. He stated that both Portable and the car dealer are expected to return later. Hundeyin mentioned, "He (Portable) has been released; he was granted bail on Wednesday to come back with the complainant later," adding that "the outcome of that meeting will determine our next line of action." This isn't Portable's first encounter with law enforcement. In April 2023, the 'Zazoo Zeh' singer was arrested by the police in Ogun State and charged with five counts related to alleged assault and theft at the Ifo Magistrate Court in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. He was subsequently remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre but was released after meeting bail conditions.

The Lagos State Police Command has stated that Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, will remain in custody until he can provide a credible surety for his bail. This information was disclosed by the command's spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin.

"He has not yet presented a reliable surety, so he (Portable) is still in our custody," Hundeyin stated.

Portable was arrested earlier for allegedly failing to settle a debt of N14 million owed to a car dealer in Lagos, arising from purchasing a G-Wagon.

However, a letter of undertaking signed by Portable has emerged online, indicating that he still owes N14 million for the N27 million G-Wagon. Additionally, voice recordings of the car dealer communicating with Portable have been circulated on the internet.

In the recordings, the dealer requested Portable to return the vehicle or settle the outstanding payment, but Portable refused, citing issues with the car.

As per the agreement, the dealer reportedly has the authority to repossess the car without compensating Portable if he fails to comply.

Prior to his arrest by the police, a video surfaced on social media showing Portable attempting to evade arrest by scaling a fence to escape the policemen. However, he was apprehended by the officers and taken into custody, where he remains due to his inability to meet the bail conditions.

Drama As Portable Jumps Gate To Avoid Arrest

Nigerian musician, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, made headlines on Tuesday as he attempted to evade arrest by jumping over a gate to escape operatives of the Lagos State Police Command. His arrest came in response to a complaint filed by a car dealer to whom he owed money.

Portable had initiated the purchase of an N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making an initial payment and promising to settle the remaining amount later. However, when confronted by police officers, he attempted to flee the scene. In a video circulating on social media, Portable, dressed in a white and black striped shirt, can be seen engaging in a conversation with the officers before suddenly leaping over a nearby gate and making a run for it. He was later apprehended by four police operatives and taken into custody.

Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that Portable had purchased the G-Wagon for N27 million, paid N13 million, and refused to pay the remaining balance, claiming the vehicle was faulty.

This isn't the first time Portable has found himself in trouble with the law. In 2023, he was arrested and arraigned over allegations of assault on a former signee. Despite police requests for him to surrender, Portable evaded arrest until he was eventually picked up at his residence in Ota.

Portable, known for his controversial nature, rose to fame with his hit single "Zazuu," featuring rapper Olamide, in 2021.

Okoro revealed that her attempts to earn a livelihood through ventures like a fish farm and plantation have been ruined. She made a direct appeal to the state's governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to intervene and stop the demolition. "Please, my governor, do something #sheriffoborevwori," Evan Okoro implored in an Instagram post on Tuesday. "I'm just a struggling, hardworking lady trying to make a living in your state, Asaba, Delta State.

Our esteemed and handsome governor, please, sir, do something. My entire world is falling apart," she lamented. Okoro emphasized that she has not only lost her home but also her means of livelihood. "It's not fair; I am heartbroken right now. Why are they doing this to us? Nigeria has happened to me. Everything is gone: my fish farm, my plantation," she cried out in a video she shared. She acknowledged the government's authority over land ownership but pleaded for compassion. "I understand that all lands belong to the government, even my father's house in the village. Please, sir, do something #sheriffoborevwori, our very own Governor, please, sir." However, the demolition of properties labeled as 'illegal' has been ongoing nationwide.

In a separate incident, a businesswoman known as @lashiskin_ on Instagram was deeply traumatized after receiving a demolition notice from the Lagos State Government for a building her family acquired in the Eti Osa Local Government Area of the state. The fair-skinned lady, who, according to her Instagram profile, is involved in the skincare business, was seen shedding uncontrollable tears over the development in a viral video she posted on her page late Sunday.

In the video, the businesswoman lamented that her family bought the property in February 2024, revealing that all their hard work had been invested in its purchase. She said, "We bought our property in February, and we've only been there for two months. All the hard work, all the sleepless nights, everything… If you are in Lagos, you know how much property in Eti Osa costs."
