Angela Okorie Criticizes Zubby Michael Over Video of Cash Donation to Pope Junior’s Family

Following a viral video of actor Zubby Michael handing bundles of cash to the grieving family of the late actor Junior Pope, Angela Okorie has publicly criticized him for the gesture.

On her Instagram Story on Monday, May 20, 2024, the actress accused Michael of staging the scene to record his charity, arguing that he could have given the money privately. She stated, "Zubby if you really wanted to give money to Junior Pope's family, you could have done it quietly, like I used to give you money discreetly. No one would know. You planted a camera to record yourself giving bundles of money to JP's family. We all know you for your propaganda. Just get out, please."

In another post, Okorie condemned the actor's "unnecessary showcase of money" and labeled him a "local boy." Her post read, "Zubby, a young person died. The showcase of money wasn't necessary, but as a local boy that you are, you lack sense. You don't know when to show off and when to behave appropriately. Do you have more money than all the dignitaries who attended? Fool."

Many social media users agreed with Okorie, expressing that Zubby should not have recorded his good deed.

An Instagram user commented, "Y’all are so blinded by ‘Zuby the star’ that no one is considering the message Angela is conveying. People are talking about irrelevant things like did he promise her marriage. Our problem is that we are too shortsighted and look at things superficially until it’s too late. For her to keep talking about this shows there is more to the story. But because it’s Zuby, everyone has taken his side. Smh."

Carolyna Hutchings Threatens Legal Action Against Oritsefemi Over Claims of Marriage to Late Tagbo

Nigerian actress Carolyna Hutchings has announced her intention to sue singer Oritsefemi over his claim that she was married to Tagbo Umeike, who passed away in 2017. Through her publicist, Bodex Hungbo, Hutchings issued a threat of legal action in response to Oritsefemi's statements made during an interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast.

In the interview, Oritsefemi claimed that Hutchings had married Davido's late friend, Tagbo Umeike, and that she had persuaded his then-girlfriend, now wife, Nabila, to marry him. “When I met Nabila, I did not say I wanted to get married to her. I only told her that I wanted a baby boy. That was our agreement. I never intended to marry her. It was Caroline Danjuma. Caroline went and did a court wedding with the late Tagbo. After the wedding, she told Nabila that she had married Tagbo and that she should be fast and get married to me,” he said.

Following the viral interview, Hungbo addressed Oritsefemi's claims, clarifying that Hutchings has only been legally married to her ex-husband, with whom she has three children. “This is to address the attempt to defame our client, Dr. Carolyna Danjuma Hutchings, via a concerted effort by an unscrupulous individual known as Mr. Oritsefemi," the statement read. “Several unsavory stories have emerged recently about this individual spreading false stories to cast aspersions on Dr. Carolyna Danjuma Hutchings’s personality, and we are not leaving this unturned. For clarification, Dr. Carolyna Danjuma Hutchings has never been married to anyone other than her ex-husband, Chief Barrister Musa Danjuma.”

The statement also disclosed Hutchings's decision to pursue legal action against Oritsefemi over his statements and emphasized their interest in seeing proof of Hutchings's alleged marriage to Tagbo. “Finally, our legal team will be taking legal action against Mr. Oritsefemi because of these despicable claims made by him against our focused and amiable client, Dr. Carolyna Danjuma Hutchings. We are interested in the said civil marriage certificate and pictures, including all evidence, to prove his claims beyond a reasonable doubt, which he boldly made on a recent podcast show.”

It is important to note that Hutchings has been divorced since 2016 from Chief Barrister Musa Danjuma, whom she was married to from 2007 until their separation.

Davido Discloses Annual N400 Million Donation to Orphanages

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, welcomed Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, during a courtesy visit. On Monday, Akpabio expressed his pleasure at the visit and praised Davido for making Nigeria proud with his exceptional performances.

“You have made us very proud within the international community,” Akpabio said to Davido, who was accompanied by his cousins, Tunji Adeleke and Folasade Adeleke, among others. Tunji is the son of Davido's late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and Folasade is the daughter of Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The Senate President assured his guests that the government would do everything possible to support the entertainment industry. He urged them to maintain high ethical standards and resist negative peer influence that could lead them astray.

“For me and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is an inclusive administration. You must have noticed in my various outings that we move as one, across party lines. Even though your administration is a PDP one, we work across party lines for the interest of Nigeria. The only major thing that is common to all of us is the interest of this country, which has given you so much love. It is a country with a population unmatched anywhere else in Africa, with over 240 million Nigerians. So I want you to continue to remain a great ambassador of our country. Don’t allow anybody to drag you into politics. Continue to do your best in the entertainment industry.”

Akpabio added, “For us in the political arena, we value talents, and what God has given to you, nobody can take away from you. We do everything possible to support the industry and talented people like you. All we need also is patience and prayers so that we can succeed. Please continue to maintain high ethics. What is happening in America with some of the black stars is unfortunate. For most of you in the industry, don’t allow peer group influence to derail you. Continue to do your best. The entertainment industry is like a pyramid. You start from the ground until you get there. When you are on top, your job is to remain there. So anybody who walks on a tightrope must learn how to do the balancing act. Our prayer is that God should sustain you there and continue to give you more wisdom and more talent to make Nigeria proud. We are very proud of you.”

Davido informed the Senate President of his Foundation, which primarily supports orphanages, and mentioned his new album to be released in June or July. He highlighted the importance of private sector contributions to social welfare, noting that government efforts alone are insufficient to address the needs of orphaned and abandoned children.

“As for me, I’m doing my part. I have a Foundation. Every year, I share N300 million, and N400 million to orphanages. I am just doing my part to assist society. We have a new album coming out in June or July. I thank you for everything you have been doing for us,” Davido stated.

Senate President Akpabio commended Davido for his dedication and urged other celebrities and wealthy individuals to follow his example. He emphasized that such philanthropic activities significantly complement governmental initiatives and play a crucial role in improving the lives of disadvantaged Nigerians. Akpabio also assured Davido of the Senate’s support in creating policies encouraging and facilitating private contributions to social causes.

UK-Born Actor Wale Ojo Criticizes Nigerians’ Japa Mentality As Embarrassing

Award-winning actor Wale Ojo has expressed his vision for Nigeria as a country where citizens do not feel compelled to relocate overseas, commonly referred to as 'japa'.

In a recent interview, Ojo shared that despite spending many years abroad, his love for Nigeria remains steadfast. "I have a lot of aspirations. Over the years, it would have been extremely easy for me not to come to Nigeria at all. I could easily have stayed in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, or even Russia. And I know I would have been okay doing what I do there. But I love Nigeria, and I will always love Nigeria no matter what," he stated.

Ojo highlighted his views on the 'japa' trend in Nigeria, describing it as embarrassing. "I have a lot of visions for Nigeria. And that vision includes a country where everyone doesn't want to 'japa'. The 'japa' mentality, I think, is embarrassing. It's unfortunate when professionals, like doctors, believe they need to practice elsewhere, while Nigerians are celebrated for their ingenuity abroad," he explained.

Despite acknowledging Nigeria's numerous challenges, Ojo is committed to contributing to solutions that will help realize his vision for the country. "When you come home, there are many problems. I want to be part of the solution; I don't want to just talk about the problems. I've put a lot of things in place to contribute to solutions. If the government wants to engage with the creative industry, they need to talk to people like us because we have a vision for the country; we don't just follow the crowd," he emphasized.
