Saudi Arabia Announces June 16 as Sallah Day

Saudi Arabia has announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signaling the beginning of the 12th Islamic month. The announcement was made on Thursday, confirming that tomorrow will mark the start of the holy month. The Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will begin on Friday, June 14, with the Day of Arafah occurring on Saturday, June 15.

As a result, the Muslim festival of Eid Al-Adha will be observed on Sunday, June 16, 2024. The Day of Arafah, preceding the festival, will be on June 15.

On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court called on all Muslims in the Kingdom to participate in the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Dhul Hijjah. This practice helps determine the start of the new month and the exact date of the festival in the Islamic calendar.

Eid Al-Adha, the largest Islamic festival, is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. It is the second major Islamic festival, following Eid-ul-Fitr, and is observed by Muslims worldwide.

Former Employee Sues Kanye West, Alleging Assault, Masturbation, and Other Misconduct

On June 3, Kanye West's former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, filed a lawsuit against him, alleging sexual harassment and wrongful termination. Pisciotta, who worked for West for two years, claims he sent her sexually explicit texts and behaved inappropriately throughout her employment. West has not yet publicly addressed these allegations.

According to the filing obtained by The Blast, Pisciotta has 15 years of experience in the music industry. West hired her as a creative collaborator for his Yeezy Season 1 women’s fashion line in 2015, and she also contributed to his 2021 album, Donda. In July 2021, she was promoted to Executive Assistant/Personal Assistant with a promised annual salary of $1 million, requiring her to be available "24/7."

Before working full-time for West, Pisciotta earned $1 million creating content on OnlyFans and social media. Initially, West was supportive, calling her an "OnlyFans superstar." However, in August 2022, he demanded she delete her OnlyFans account and become "God-like," promising to pay her $1 million, a promise she claims he never fulfilled. Instead, Pisciotta alleges that West began sexually harassing her, sending explicit messages and pornographic videos, and masturbating during phone calls.

The lawsuit also alleges that during a flight to Paris, West called Pisciotta into a private room and masturbated under the covers. In September 2022, she was promoted to chief of staff for West’s companies with a promised $3 million bonus, but the following month, she was offered a $3 million severance package, which she never received. She claims West developed an “obsession” with her, moving into her building and “stalking” her after her termination.

Pisciotta is suing for at least $4 million, citing breach of contract, a hostile work environment, and sexual harassment.

Naira Abuse: Court to Hear Case Against Cubana Chief Priest on June 25

A Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the case against celebrity bartender Pascal Okechukwu, Cubana Chief Priest, to June 25. Okechukwu is facing charges for allegedly abusing Naira notes.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Okechukwu on April 17 on a three-count charge, accusing him of spraying and tampering with Naira notes during a social event at Eko Hotel in Lagos. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail set at N10 million.

During the last hearing on May 2, the defense counsel, Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), informed the court that both parties were exploring a settlement, applying for the matter to be resolved under section 14(2) of the EFCC Act. Consequently, the defense requested to withdraw their preliminary objection, which the court granted as there was no opposition from the prosecution. The case was then adjourned to June 5 for a settlement report.

However, on Wednesday, it was learned that the defense had requested a further adjournment. The court has now scheduled the case for mention on June 25.

The charges against Okechukwu allege that he tampered with N500 notes while dancing at the Eko Hotel event, violating section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
