During the conversation, Mayweather shared how distraught he was after learning the minimal charge given to the Minnesota officer who killed George Floyd, only third-degree murder and manslaughter.
As you know, many believe the officer should be charged with first-degree murder which could carry a sentence of life in prison. Also, many protestors are calling for the other three officers who assisted in pinning down Mr. Floyd, to also be arrested and charged with crimes associated to his death.
Mayweather claims he was in a group chat with Anzel Jennings, the CEO of TMT’s music label, who shared with the legendary boxer she grew up with George Floyd in Houston, Texas.
After speaking with his CEO, Mayweather was able to reach out to George Floyd’s family after Jennings re-connected with them family in Texas.
The 43-year-old boxer committed to paying for three funeral services — on in Houston (George’s hometown), one in Minnesota, and another in Charlotte. According to HU, the family is also looking for a fourth location to have a celebration of life.
Although the original conversation with Mayweather was in private, HU’s Jason Lee explained to him why he wanted to share Mayweather’s gesture with the world. “I felt it was important to share this because his voice has a global impact that needs to be heard, especially during these times,” he said.
As we reported, several other A-list celebrities have stepped up to help the Floyd family — along with aiding those who are protesting in various cities.

Popular Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz has called for a nationwide protest over the recent rape allegations and killing of innocent young girls in Nigeria.
DAILY POST reported that Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100-level Microbiology student of University of Benin, UNIBEN was allegedly raped and murdered by some unknown persons while reading in a Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, worship centre in Benin City.
Her death has since led to reactions and a demand for justice by Nigerians.
However, the general Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye commiserating with the family of the deceased, promised to assist the Nigeria police to bring justice and arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
Speaking on the development, Falz took to his Twitter page lamenting the spate of injustice in Nigeria.
He further called for a nationwide peaceful protest, adding that he is ready to challenge the government and bring justice to the lost souls.
His tweet read: “It is so exhausting to see injustice continue to thrive time after time. Every time we say NOT AGAIN, and then there is a new story. Enough is enough. It’s too disheartening.
“Justice must be served for the innocent souls we keep on losing. #JusticeForTina #JusticeForUwa.”
The rapper called on Nigerians to become fearless and move out into the streets, adding that siting at home and clamoring for justice on social media is not enough.
“It is important that we as Nigerians are fearless and we are ready to challenge the government through peaceful protests.
“It’s not enough to sit in our houses and post on socials. Justice must be served,” Falz added.
As nationwide protests continue to spiral into uncontrolled riots in response to the death of George Floyd, Justin Timberlake’s political stance may have cost him fans and followers.
The multi-platinum singer announced on Saturday (May 30) he would be donating to a nonprofit organization designed to fight criminal injustice for the poor.
“Please join me in supporting the Minneapolis protestors by donating to the @mnfreedomfund,” Timberlake, 39, wrote. “The freedom fund is combatting the harms of incarceration by paying bail for low income individuals who cannot otherwise afford: https://minnesotafreedomfund.org.”
Timberlake, who has often been criticized for appropriating black culture (mainly stemming from his lack of support and visibility in defending Janet Jackson during the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show fiasco), in turn, saw a noticeable portion of white supporters upset with his latest announcement.
Proud men’s rights activist Mike Cernovich wrote, “You’re funding rioters.” Houston radio personality Ken Webster accused the pop star of blindly suffering from white privilege. San Francisco Republican Party Chairman John Dennis taunted him for entering Twitter’s raging political warfare while others, accused him of funding alleged radical movement Antifa.
According to the Minnesota Freedom Fund’s mission statement, its goal is to create “A society that does not condition pretrial freedom on class or identity, that has ended mass incarceration, and that invests in restorative and transformative justice.”
Timberlake joins Kehlani, Noname, Seth Rogen, Steve Carell, Lady Gaga, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, Don Cheadle, Harry Styles, Patton Oswalt, John Cusack, Ellen DeGeneres, Colin Kaepernick, Cynthia Nixon, Janelle Monáe, Liam Wong, Kali Uchis, Ben Schwartz and Halsey who have contributed monetary support to various causes — which has infuriated plenty of people.
