February 3, 2021 Mariah Carey Sued By Sister For ‘Emotional Distress’

Mariah Carey Sued By Sister For ‘Emotional Distress’

Mariah Carey is being faced with a new legal challenge by her sister.

The star's sister Alison has reportedly filed a court summons stating she is seeking $1.25 million  from her superstar sister, according to People magazine.

In the suit, Alison alleges that the "We Belong Together" singer, 50, included multiple stories in her recent memoir "The Meaning of Mariah Carey" that intentionally placed "emotional distress" on Alison.

Furthermore, the suit refers to Carey as "heartless, vicious and vindictive," and states that Alison has begun abusing alcohol and is "uncharacteristically tearful" after the book's release.

In the book, Carey alleges that Alison gave her Valium and tried to "pimp her out" and threw boiling hot tea on her, per People, a story which Alison cites in the summons and claims "presented no evidence to substantiate."

"[Carey] also callously dismisses [Alison] as her 'ex' sister," said the legal doc. "But instead of saying no more about her, [Carey] used her book to humiliate and embarrass plaintiff as stories about the memoir appeared in newspapers around the world, on TV and across the Internet, most of them with headlines repeating defendant's allegations — all of them published without giving [Alison] any opportunity to respond."

The docs also say that Alison has been diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety and depression, and is now utilizing therapy to process "the horrific abuse" she allegedly suffered as a child, which includes incidents she's described as "satanic" in a lawsuit against their mother Patricia

The summons also accuses the star of using her "status as a public figure to attack her penniless sister" in order to promote her book by creating "sensational" headlines.

Additionally, Alison claims she has sent an offer to settle to Carey's attorneys but "no response has been received."

Alison is seeking $1.25 million for the "intentional infliction of immense emotional distress caused by [Carey's] heartless, vicious, vindictive, despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation of defendant's already profoundly damaged older sister."
