ASUU Strike: Students Vow To Disrupt Party Activities, Block Airports

Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife have staged a protest to demand an immediate resolution of the crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities extended its ongoing strike for another 12 weeks after a meeting of the National Executive Council of ASUU at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja.

A statement signed by ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said the rollover was to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues.

Shortly after, students took to the streets chanting anti-governmental slogans while demanding that the government resolve the strike and let them go back to school.

Some of the placards they wielded has inscriptions such as ‘Strike has killed our educational sector, we need to go back to school’, and ‘We are tired of FG/ASUU’ among others.

They threatened to occupy the streets if the government fails to listen to them.

In the same vein, the National Association of Nigerian Students has vowed to block all federal roads and airports in the country to protest the 12-week extension of the strike by the striking lecturers.

In a statement, NANS President, Sunday Asefon, condemned the inaction of the federal government while insisting that students of public universities would disrupt primary elections and conventions by political parties scheduled for May ending.

Singer Stephanie Otobo Slams Apostle Suleman Again, Shares Photos On Twitter

Canada-based Nigerian singer, Stephanie Otobo, has again slammed Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministry Worldwide, accusing the cleric of poisoning her and trying to kill her.

In a series of tweets on Monday, the singer shared photos of their video chats, as she rolled out allegations against the cleric.

Otobo and Suleman were first in the news in 2017 when the singer sued the preacher for assault and sexual harassment.

Sharing a picture of the alleged sexual organ of the cleric, she wrote on Monday, “Oracle of God, can you deny this? Your fingernail and the scar on your left thigh?”

Defending her posts, she wrote, “If these screenshots were fake, how did I get his pictures that aren’t public pictures in the first place and how come I’m the first to release this kind of pics of him?

“He has changed his hairstyle twice since I came out to speak up with receipts. He has done alot to appear different.”

Rolling out allegations against the pastor, she said, “He did everything to stop my music career. He was scared that I’ll be influential.

“He even poisoned me, paid my friends to set me up and bribed some members of my fam to assassinate me. Lured me to come to make a false confession at his church in Auchi that I lied against him.”

At the time of filing this report, the pastor is yet to react to the recent callout.

When she earlier accused him and slammed him with a $5m suit in 2019,  the pastor denied her allegations and took legal action against her.

YouTube Go To Shutdown This August

The streaming platform made the announcement in a blogpost shared last week.

According to the company, the new move will enable users enjoy improvements made to the main app.

“When we launched YouTube Go in 2016, it was designed for viewers in locations where connectivity, data prices, and low-end devices prevented us from delivering the best experience in the main YouTube app. Since then, YouTube has invested in improvements to the main YouTube app that make it perform better in these environments, while also delivering a better user experience which is inclusive of our entire community,” an excerpt from the post reads.

Mainly available to android users, YouTube Go was first introduced in areas like India and Indonesia where users struggled to access the main app due to slow network and high data prices. The lite version allowed users download videos to view offline as well as the ability to reduce the quality of videos by adjusting the MB.

YouTube has over the years improved on the main app. Users are now able to efficiently run the app slower networks with plans already in motion to help people with limited data.
