Ireti Doyle Recounts How Adesua Etomi Stepped In When Her Daughter Was Bullied In School

In a lengthy post shared via her Instagram page on Thursday, May 26, 2022, the movie star gave a detailed account of how her daughter moved to a new school and was welcomed by bullies.

"NOT SO RANDOM STORY Sooo sisi kekere (can I still refer to her like that?🤔) had just transferred to a new school having spent her entire academic career up to that point in one place. It took a whole summer of convincing, but I finally caved in - do not underestimate @jemiyodoyle once she's set her mind on a thing," she wrote.

"Anyways, she arrives, bright and bubbly eager to take on new territory and blossom, which she did. Within months of arriving she vied for and won a position on the Students Council. Apparently, that's not allowed. "You cannot just arrive here and begin to "shine" without "permission".

She then recounted how Etomi stepped in and managed the situation.

"Oh, the bullying was aggressive! And most of the time, she would beg me not to step in, determined to make her way. Anyways Mrs. Wellington heard about the goings-on and said "Auntie, I'm going to go pick Jem up from school one day"... I said OK," she added.

"On the said day, she asked me to sit in the car. It took longer than usual... @adesuaetomi didn't just "pick" her from schl...she took her time to stroll around the school compound with her arm around Jemiyo, waving at the students who had become dumbstruck."

"The message was clear: "This is my Beloved, thou shall not touch". Suffice to say the bullying died down significantly from that day - true star power."

"Jem has kolobied many of my friends, who have poured into her...some for a season, for some, just a brush...you have no idea how powerful just one brush from the right person is in molding a young mind. It truly takes a village...the 3 people captured here represent mine."

"To everyone who has ever touched Jems life positively...THANK YOU🙏🏽 I also want to thank the multitude of my online village too, for your warm wishes and prayers...Omo a ye gbogbo wa, a o ni se ti, ni oruko Jesu!!!❤️"

Doyle is a Nigerian actress, entertainer, TV presenter, writer and public speaker.

May 25, 2022 Ladipoe, Ghost, Other Rappers React To 2022 Headies Nomination List

Ladipoe, Ghost, Other Rappers React To 2022 Headies Nomination List

On 24th May, Headies released what many observers concede to be the most competitive and inclusive Headies nomination list in years.

In the rich history of the Headies, the three rap categories – Lyricist on the Roll, Best Rap Single, and Best Rap Album have always been a subject of wide debates and contentions. This trend continues with the 2022 Headies nomination list which has left some rappers with a bitter taste in their mouth.

Nominated in the Best Rap Song Category are:

‘BREATHE’ – A-Q FEAT CHIKE

‘CROWN OF CLAY’ – VECTOR & MI ABAGA FEAT. PHEELZ

‘EARLY MOMO’ – VECTOR FEAT. GOODGIRL LA

‘FEELING’ – LADIPOE FEAT. BNXN

‘TYCOON’ – SHOW DEM CAMP FEAT. REMINISCE & MOJO

‘LOADING’ – OLAMIDE FEAT BAD BOY TIMZ

Nominated for the Lyricist of the Year Prize are:

A-Q – ‘THE LAST CYPHER’

BLAQBONEZ – ‘THE LAST CYPHER’

JESSE JAGZ – ‘VIPERS’

LADIPOE – ‘PROVIDENCE’

PAYPER CORLEONE – ‘IN DON WE TRUST’

VECTOR – ‘CROWN OF CLAY’

The albums contending for the Rap Album of the Year Category are:

‘CARPE DIEM’ – OLAMIDE

‘CLONE WARS VOL. 5 – THE ALGORHYTHM’ – SHOW DEM CAMP

‘GOLDEN’ – A-Q

‘MAFIA CULTURE, VOL. 2.0’ – IDOWEST

‘PROVIDENCE’ – LADIPOE

The rap categories have divided opinion with some believing it’s a fair and near accurate reflection of the year in review. Others have however contended that the nomination list fails to paint an accurate picture of the rap scene in the year in review. Some of the rappers whose songs were notably missing from the rap categories didn’t take the snub with a stiff upper lip.

Superboy Cheque whomust have been expecting at least a nomination with his successful singles ‘Zoom’ and the Fireboy assisted ‘History’ took to his Twitter account to share his feelings on his omission. The rapper who heavily infuses melody into his rap said he was constantly overlooked due to his style while rappers with similar style abroad were widely celebrated. He went on to further say that the non inclusion of different rap style is part of the reason Hip Hop is experiencing stagnation in Nigeria.

Superboy Cheque wasn’t the only artist who aired his displeasure. Ghost who isone half of the rap duo Show Dem Camp took to Twitter to let the Headies and fans know that while he appreciates the nomination pf ‘CLONE WARS VOL. 5 – THE ALGORHYTHM’ for Rap Album of the Year, the plaque isn’t a driving force or a motivation to him. He also hinted that he has no expectations from the Headies following the snub of their 2019 rap album ‘Clone Wars Vol. IV (These Buhari Times).’

Similarly, rapper Ladipoe tweeted in celebration of his five nominations although he was shocked that his smash hit ‘Feeling’ featuring BNXN didn’t get the nod for Song of the Year. Ladipoe’s ‘Feeling’ will be contending with Vector’s ‘Early Momo‘ for the Collaboration of the Year award in what promises to be the most competitive Headies award in recent years.

So far, rappers aren’t the only ones dissatisfied with the 2022 Headies nomination list as other categories have also generated debates. The dissatisfaction of these artists isn’t unbecoming and neither is it without merit. It’s impossible for any award to inspire praise from all quarters. At any rate, the Headies will take pride and comfort in the fact that several critics and observers credited the 2022 nomination list to be the best in years.
