Falz Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum to Verydarkman to Retract Defamatory Statements

Nigerian rapper Falz has given social media personality Verydarkman a 24-hour ultimatum to retract claims that he and his father, Femi Falana, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), assisted Bobrisky in having money laundering charges dropped.

This comes after a viral audio released by Verydarkman on September 24, 2024, where Bobrisky alleged that unnamed EFCC officers accepted ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges. Bobrisky also claimed that a SAN and his son helped him avoid prison. Verydarkman then suggested that Falz and his father were the individuals involved, sparking widespread reactions across social media and making Falz a trending topic.

In a legal document shared on Falz's Instagram on September 25, 2024, a specific statement by Verydarkman was highlighted: “In everything and everyone that is mentioned here, I will be disappointed if truly FALZ and his father are involved in this whole Bobrisky issue."

The document described the allegations as a "vicious, wicked, and reckless ploy to impugne" Falz's reputation. It demanded an immediate retraction and apology on all platforms where the defamatory statements were shared. The legal notice warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would lead to legal action, including seeking damages for the defamatory remarks.

“It’s a Fake Claim” – Bobrisky Refutes Allegations of Bribing EFCC Officials with ₦15m

Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has denied allegations that he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On Tuesday night, popular influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released a voice recording purportedly featuring Bobrisky, in which he allegedly confessed to bribing EFCC officials with ₦15 million. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that the money was intended to persuade the officials to drop money laundering charges against him.

The crossdresser also stated that he never spent time in prison following his conviction and six-month sentence for naira mutilation in April 2024. Instead, he claimed that his godfather arranged for him to serve his term in a lodge rather than in jail.

In response to the controversy, Bobrisky labeled the viral recording as fake, asserting that he did serve his time in prison. In an Instagram post, he stated, “My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet claiming that I paid the EFCC ₦15 million and that I was never in prison. I didn’t pay any EFCC money; that is a blatant lie. I served my term in full and came out. Disregard any false information.”

Protesters Set to Storm Lagos Assembly Over Mohbad’s Death Investigation

Nollywood actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi is set to lead a peaceful protest demanding justice for the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad. Fabiyi announced on his Instagram page that the protest would take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The protest aims to urge the state government to establish a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding MohBad’s death. Fabiyi alleged that those responsible for the singer's death are using large sums of money to cover up the case, distract the public, and hide critical evidence.

“We are confident the CCTV cameras inside and outside MohBad’s house were operational and that the footage is stored remotely, not via DVR. The builders of similar houses and the security team at Royal Pine Estate, Off Orchid Road, Lekki, hold the answers to where this footage is kept,” Fabiyi claimed. He expressed frustration with the police for not retrieving the footage and emphasized the need for government intervention.

He called on the people of Lagos State to press their elected representatives to step in, form a committee, and uncover the truth behind MohBad’s death. Fabiyi urged citizens to join the protest and speak with one voice, reminding participants to remain peaceful and orderly.

MohBad, a former signee of Marlian Music, died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparking widespread controversy. The Lagos State Police Command launched a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe his death, which led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Sam Larry, among others.

MohBad's body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy. However, a pathologist later revealed that the cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s decomposition.

In May, it was reported that a US-based lab denied claims by the Lagos State Government that it had conducted toxicology tests on MohBad’s samples. The lab, NMS Labs, clarified that they did not handle the case, though a subsequent statement from the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that the samples were sent to NMS Labs through another lab, ITSI Biosciences, and the testing was completed in April 2024.

EFCC Summons Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan Over Officer Bribery Allegations

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into bribery allegations made against some EFCC officers by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

In a video shared by blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky, who is an ex-convict, accused certain unnamed EFCC officers of collecting ₦15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.

On Tuesday, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale released a statement confirming that the commission's leadership has formed a special investigative team to look into the allegations.

“To this end, the Commission invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to appear at its Lagos Directorate to assist in the investigation of the alleged bribery,” the statement read.

The EFCC reassured the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated, with the findings made public upon conclusion.

It is worth noting that Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison in April for violating Nigerian currency laws, following his conviction for abusing the naira.
