May 10, 2021 148 Idps May Miss 2021 UTME Over SIM Card Issues

148 Idps May Miss 2021 UTME Over SIM Card Issues

About 148 internally displaced persons (IDPs) at International Christian Centre (ICC) in Ohogua, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo, may miss the 2021/2022 UTME due to SIM card issues.

He expressed fears that the students might miss the examination because of their inability to get SIM cards needed to generate JAMB PIN.

The cleric, who said that processes for the entire registration for the examination would expire on May 15, however, said that PIN generation would end Monday.

“We have made frantic efforts to get the SIM, but it has been fruitless. We simply have not been able to get any to buy for the 148 candidates we have at the centre.

“This was exactly what we went through to be able to get those of them writing examination registered for their NIN.

We were travelling as far as Okada and other far places to be able to get them registered; we succeeded in that and now it is the challenge of SIM card.

“Ours is to get the SIM, and for the phones, we should be able to get them to be doing the PIN generation one after the other,” he stated.

Folorunsho, who attributed the difficulty to the ban earlier placed on sale of SIM cards due to NIN registration, said that the centre would be spending N1.15 million to register the 148 IDPs for the JAMB examination.

“Each candidate will get the form for N8,880, while we plan to get nine buses to convey them to JAMB office for N180,000 at N20,000 per bus.

“Also, we shall be spending N77,000 to feed them in Benin,” he said.

April 26, 2021 Kaduna State University Increases Fees For Non-Indigenes From N26,000 To N500,000

Kaduna State University Increases Fees For Non-Indigenes From N26,000 To N500,000

The decision to increase fees was taken to enhance the development of the university, management says.

The Kaduna State University has reviewed its tuition fees from N24,000 and N26,000 to N150,000 and N500,000, for indigenes and non-indigenes respectively.

The steep increment has been widely condemned by students; and across all social media platforms, with the Nigerian economy and most households still reeling from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

The management of KASU has confirmed the upward review of its tuition fees, while adding that consultations are ongoing with stakeholders.

The management made the confirmation in a statement made available to journalists by the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Adamu Bargo.

Bargo explained that the upward review is due to the current realities and efforts to improve the standard of learning and research on campus.

He added that the decision will also enhance the development of the university.

The spokesperson said that available records show that N400 million was being spent monthly and N4.8 billion annually by the Kaduna State government on payment of the university’s staff salaries.

He said that N25 million was also being spent as overhead monthly, while the university generates only N765.9 million annually.

“In the year 2020, there was the allocation of N10billion to the university meant for the execution of capital projects, but N5billion was spent on overhead and personnel cost.

“The upward review of the tuition fees is a difficult decision based on the reality of the present time.

“However, the university hopes to improve the quality of teaching and research activities as well as create more conducive atmosphere of learning for staff and students,” Bargo said.

The students have rejected the increase.

Abdulrazak Shuaibu, a medical student, who spoke on behalf of the students, said the tuition fees were increased from N26,000 to N150,000 for students in Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences.

Shuaibu, who is a former President of Kaduna State Students Union, added that students in the Faculty of Medicine from the state will now pay N300,000 as against N24,000 while non-indigenes will pay N500,000.

April 26, 2021 JAMB Registers Over 300,000 For UTME, 8,000 For DE

JAMB Registers Over 300,000 For UTME, 8,000 For DE

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), has so far registered more than 300,000 candidates for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“Total profile code generated so far is 497,528.

“Total UTME pin vended is 344, 115, while total pin vended for DE is 10, 848. Total registered candidates for UTME, 316, 132 and total registered candidates for DE is 8, 490.

“Total candidates who have indicated interest in sitting for the mock UTME are 126, 402,’’ it said.

According to the bulletin, candidates can send their National Identity Number (NIN) from any SIM of their choice provided the SIM has not been used by another candidate to register for UTME/DE in the past.

JAMB said that this was contrary to its earlier statement that only the SIM that was linked to a candidate’s NIN could be used to send their NIN to 55019.

NAN reports that the board had on Sunday said that candidates could only generate their profiles by sending their details to 55019 on the SIM linked to their NIN.

It, however, advised them to follow the right process to be successfully registered.

“The right process is to send the word `NIN’, allow one space in between, and then insert the eleven digits NIN number and send to 55019.

“Any other process is wrong and would not generate the profile code for the candidate.’’

NAN also reports that the mock UTME earlier scheduled to hold on April 30, is now to take place on May 20, while the examination will take place from June 5 to June 19.

Registration for UTME/DE which began on April 8, will end on May 15.
