President Buhari Promise Nigeria Will Increase Education Budget Up To 100% By 2025

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has pledged to increase the budget for the education sector by as much as 50 per cent over the next two years.

In the long term, he promised that budgetary allocation to the sector would witness a progressive increase to about 100 per cent in the next four years.

The President made the commitment in a document titled, 'Heads of State Call to Action on Education Financing" ahead of the Global Education Summit,' in London.

The Minister of State for Education, CHUKWUEMEKA NWAJIUBA, who was among those who accompanied the President to the Summit spoke more on the development.

The event is expected to bring together Heads of State and Government, as well as stakeholders and youth leaders, and provide a platform for partners to chart a way forward towards transforming education systems in partner countries, through the exchange of best practices.

It will also offer the opportunity for leaders to make five-year pledges to support GPE's work to help transform education systems in up to 90 countries and territories.

Nigeria’s Education System, One Of The Best In The World – Educationist

Aladesemipe, Proprietor of Calvary Group of Schools in Ibadan, stated this at a valedictory service held for graduands of 2020/2021 academic session on Tuesday.

An Educationist, Mr Olaoluwa Aladesemipe, has described Nigeria’s education system as one of the best in the world, saying it has been providing workforce for several countries.

He noted that the quality of the country’s education system had, over the years, positioned its citizens to be relevant, particularly outside the country.

“Nigeria’s education system is one of the best. If you are a Nigerian and you go to countries like Canada and USA, you get job faster than other nationals.

“This is because most of the people we are competing with there are either Chinese or Indians.

"No doubt, they have their brilliance, but most of them don’t go to the university in their countries.

“When people are running down Nigeria’s education system, I feel it is because they don’t know what the quality is.

"We have the quality but unfortunately, we are not doing it the right way at home,” Aladesemipe said.

He noted that Nigeria could become a hub for job globally, adding: “We just need little more efforts and organization from the top.

“Canada doesn’t have people to work for it. Likewise, USA is looking for best brains. So if they can go to China, they can equally come to Nigeria.

“Hardly will you see any company where a Nigerian will allow a Chinese or an Indian to be his boss abroad.

“But, at home here, their technicians will be our bosses. So there is a misplacement of priority,” he added.

According to Aladesemipe, many African nationals claim to be Nigerians abroad owing to the brilliant showing of many Nigerians.

He urged the Federal Government to help facilitate loans for the over 35,000 private schools in the country through banks at one digit interest rate.

According to him, every private school should be able to access the funds allocated to cater for every child, as budgeted by each state.

He said that government should allow parents to take their children to whatever school they desired and ensure that the fund budgeted for each child was paid to the school.

This, the educationist said, would bring down the cost of training a child, adding that this was the standard practice, particularly in most developed countries.

“It will also reduce the number of out-of-school children, which are in their millions in the country,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the three best graduating students: Jomiloju AgboolaOluwatise Ajayi and Rereloluwa Uansohia were given awards.

In an interview with NAN, Ajayi appreciated God and his parents for the successes recorded.

Ajayi, who won award as the Best Mathematics and Civic Education Student, wished his fellow graduands success in their future endeavours, urging them not to rest on their laurels.

JAMB Says 160,617 Candidates Write Mock Examinations Nationwide

A total of 160,617 candidates sat for the Mock examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in its 777 Computer-Based Centres across the country, according to the board’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

“We have over 160,000 candidates sitting for this mock examinations in all our CBT centres. We received reports of complaint of staff capacity and stability at one or two centres.

“Like in Abuja, there is a centre, Dominion International School, Jabi, that caught fire during the examinations but everything has been put under control.

“The exams are going on well and with what we have now, it shows we are good to go for the main examinations coming up June 19,” he said.

Meanwhile, candidates have continued to expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the 2021 mock examination by JAMB.

Some of the candidates who spoke to newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, said the examination was a guide to prepare them for the upcoming UTME on June 19.

Fahd Isah, a candidate at the Global Distance Learning Institute, said there were no technical hitches at the centre owing to the availability of JAMB technical officers on ground.

“The exams went well, it makes me have an insight of how the main examinations will turn out. The mock exams gave us guidelines on what to look out for in the main examinations.

“But our main concern is that the board should assist candidates by providing pen and paper to solve problems in mathematics and other subjects that have to do with calculations.

“This will ease the stress of having to guess in the examinations without having to solve the problems,” he said.

Miss Adelinah Etete, also commended the board and the centre for the conduct of the examinations, while calling for a replication at the main examinations.

She stated that she was impressed by the outcome of the examinations, as it would give them further opportunities to study more.

In a similar vein, Miss Rejoice Isaac, lamented that although the questions were tough, it provided a way to prepare candidates to read more for the main examinations.

Isaac also said that there were no technical hitches as everything went well as expected of an examination.

“Though the examinations was a little bit tough but it is a good one as it will enable us to go back and read up areas we are still lagging behind in our subjects.

“We did not experience any problems as regards Internet connectivity or power failure and the computers used were all working well,” She said.

Speaking further, the JAMB Technical Officer, Mrs Oluwaseun Omotosho, commended the candidates for their conduct during the examination.

She said that 200 candidates were to write the examination at the Global Distance Learning Centre, but only 125 candidates showed up.

Omotosho, who did not say the reasons why 75 candidates failed to show up for the examination at the centre, said the centre did not experience any hitches either before, during or after the examinations.

May 14, 2021 BREAKING: JAMB May Postpone 2021 UTME

BREAKING: JAMB May Postpone 2021 UTME

The registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board, Prof. Is’aq Oloyede, has said that the board will decide if there is a need to extend the registration period and change the date of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

Oloyede made this known today, at a zoom meeting titled, ‘Briefing session for the committees on 2021 UTME’.

The UTME had been slated to hold between June 5 and 19.

Oloyede, however, stated that the Mock examination would begin on May 20 as stipulated earlier.

The registrar explained that “Presently, we have 1.2million candidates that have registered but we expect 1.9million. 600,000 candidates had made attempt to register but because of NIN they could not. We want to do an appraisal of all the issues to know if we are extending registration or not.

“Extending registration may not be the solution if we found out that we can give 80 per cent of those who have made attempt another password, then there will be no need to extend registration.

“We have to determine where the problem is coming before we can say we are extending. After today, we will address the press tomorrow on the outcome of the meeting on the main examination date and registration. We want to assess what is happening.”

The zoom meeting had in attendance stakeholders who all stated their challenges while some others appreciated the innovations and transparency which Oloyede brought to the fore in the yearly conduct of UTME.
