National Cash Transfer: FG Pays N10bn To 1m Beneficiaries Every 2 Months

Mr Apera Iorwa, National Coordinator, National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) says the Federal Government pays N10 billion to one million beneficiaries every two months from the National Cash Transfer.

NASSCO is a Federal Government agency with the mandate to establish the building blocks and delivery of targeted transfers and livelihood supports to extreme poor and vulnerable households in the country.

From the Federal Government cash transfer programme, each beneficiary got N5,000 monthly but because of logistics, we pay N10,000 every two months and we have paid about one million beneficiaries across the country,’’ he said.

Iorwa said that at first, it started with 19 states from 2016 to 2017 and then in 2018, with the World Bank loan, it came to 24 states and gradually it had covered the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to him, the distribution depends on how the state governments are able to establish their social register in each of their states.

We do this through the World Bank facility of 500 million dollars for five years.

“The Abacha repatriated loot of 325 million dollars was given to National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO). We have a total projection of 822 million dollars for over five years,” he said.

According to him, at the moment, there are 35.2 million individuals from 8.2 million households in the social register in 36 states and FCT.

He said that out of the 35 million individuals, about 49 per cent of them were female and 51 per cent male adding that 68 per cent of them were illiterates.

He said that the cash transfer had also helped to send more children to school, as their parents were able to buy books and school uniforms.

Iorwa added that about 4.8 per rent which amounted to 1.3 million people living with disabilities were benefitting from the programme.

Mrs Ajia Agagbo, Executive Director, Centre for Health Education, Economic Rehabilitation and Social Security (CHEERS), an NGO, said that the meeting was the report on the scorecard of the project for the past one year.

Agagbo said that the centre’s objective was to provide independent monitoring information on the different processes being implemented within the safety net programme.

She said the Third Party Monitoring (TPM) was one of the basic foundational elements in promoting social investment and accountability within the context of any government or donor funded programme.

She said the total population of beneficiaries sampled across the 19 states was 235,744 beneficiaries which represented 50.9 per cent of the overall total on the payroll of the cash transfer programme.

Crowwe Applies For NBC Licence As Users Rise To 31, 245

Social media platform, Crowwe, has applied for a licence from the National Broadcasting Commission in line with the Federal Government’s new drive to register all social media platforms in the country.

This is just as the number of users has risen to 31,245.

The Chief Executive Officer of IPI, Mr. Adamu Garba, who created the social media app, said this during a chat with our correspondent on Thursday.

Garba said the Crowe app which was taken down by Google app store on Saturday, would return in a matter of days.

He added, “Crowwe now has 31,245 users with about 2, 270 business accounts. We have written a letter to the NBC applying for a licence in line with the Federal Government’s announcement but we have not yet received any response. If they don’t respond by Friday, we will send a second letter.”

On when Crowwe would return to the Google app store, Garba said, “There are some lapses. It consumes a lot of data based on user complaints so we decided to take up some opportunities to do that. We have edited. We will upload it by Saturday or so.”

Garba, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, also stated that his Instagram page which was suspended some days ago had been restored.

He said it was brought down because several people reported his page because they didn’t like him.

“So many people reported my Instagram page. It was disabled but it has been restored,” he said.

5 Most Expensive Food Items In The Market Right Now

The price of all food stuff in Nigeria has increased astronomically but the cost of some food items are truly shocking.

Going to the market to buy anything these days would have you astounded. The cost of living in Nigeria is so high.

Nigerian youths have come up with the common slang 'sapa' to describe the state of not having funds and still having to spend money.

Here are 5 most expensive food item;

Tomato paste was something you bought when you did not have money to buy fresh tomatoes. Nowadays if you are buying tomato paste you are rich. It went from N50 to N150 or N200 in some places.

This is another food you bought when you were broke, you could get a Derica (a measuring tin) for as low as N50, now Garri is as high as N600 for the same measurement.

Actor Mofe Duncan posted that he got a bunch of plantain for N6000. We all had a good laugh at his expense because he was obviously swindled but it was not too long ago you could buy a bunch of plantain for N100 now the least you can get plantain is N500

The people who drink bottled water will not relate but sachet water used to be N5 for a unit and N100 for a bag of water. Now it is N20 for a unit and N200 for a bag of water. The price doubled!

In the good old days when you can get half a kilo of chicken for N650, nowadays it is priced something between N1800 to N2000.

Rice would be given a honorary mention but it has been expensive since this regime came on board and closed borders.

What is the most expensive thing you have bought in a market recently?
