Musk Announces Gold, Grey, Blue Badges For Twitter

Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of Twitter, revealed on Friday that the platform will be introducing various colored badges to identify between accounts.

Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week,” he tweeted.

“Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.”

In another tweet, Musk said all verified individual accounts would have the same blue check, but some would eventually be able to display a “secondary tiny logo showing they belong to an org(anisation) if verified as such by that org(anisation)”.

Since acquiring the social media company last month, Elon Musk's plan for users to pay to be "certified" and get a blue badge on their accounts has created controversy.

Musk suggested an $8 monthly membership charge to enable people to receive the blue check, which was previously free but restricted for organizations and prominent persons to prevent impersonation and misrepresentation.

The first deployment of Musk's subscription scheme in early November went horribly wrong, with many users depositing the blue check and then impersonating global leaders, celebrities, or corporations.

Responding to the uproar, Musk pushed back the launch date to November 29, only to push it back again. It now looks that the functionality will be available on December 2.

Musk has said that he intends to charge users for memberships to the social media network in order to diversify its revenue source. Twitter presently relies on advertising to generate 90% of its income.

Several large businesses have pulled their ads from the site since Musk purchased it, worried that his promised relaxation of content filtering will expose their brands to being connected with harmful material.

According to the non-profit Media Matters, half of Twitter's top 100 advertisers have stated or "appear to have paused" their spending on the social network.

Elon Musk Suspends Launch Of Twitter Blue Subscription Indefinitely

Elon Musk, the billionaire and businessman, has once again halted the introduction of Twitter Blue, a premium membership service.

Musk made this announcement on his verified Twitter feed when he declared that the intended November 29th launch date for Twitter Blue is no longer viable.

He highlighted fraudsters' actions in impersonating numerous identities on the site as the reason for delaying the introduction, therefore the necessity to suspend the functionality until "there is great confidence of ending impersonation."

Musk also said that Twitter may use various colors to distinguish between checks for companies and cheques for individuals. Prior to Musk's takeover, all verified accounts had a single consistent blue checkmark.

When Musk took over Twitter, he advocated changing how verified accounts were accepted. He revealed that verified accounts would now be registered under the premium membership service known as Twitter Blue, and that customers who joined up for the function would be charged $8 per month.

When the functionality was finally implemented, TechCrunch characterized it as "utter mayhem."

There were many impersonations since everyone who paid the $8 charge received the verification check, causing widespread confusion on the app as fraudsters created identical profiles with celebrities, corporations, and prominent government entities.

Although the defaulting accounts were shut down and the function was put on hold until the site could free itself of all impersonators, users have questioned Musk's strategy for the network, citing concerns about the spread of disinformation and false news once the subscription plan is implemented.

There have been claims that Musk's proposal threatens the presence of celebrities and authentic platforms on the app, since typical users previously found it quite simple to recognize these verified and genuine accounts with the existence of the check marks.

There are concerns that the checkmark will be exploited since anybody can simply get certified checkmarks for a fee, therefore negating the purpose of the verification.

Elon Musk To Find A New CEO For Twitter So He Can Focus On Tesla

Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest person, has said that he would cut his time at Twitter and ultimately select a new CEO to lead the social media firm, adding that he planned to finish an organizational restructure this week.

Musk made the comments while appearing in a Delaware court on Wednesday, November 16 to defend himself against allegations that his $56 billion compensation package at Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) was based on easy-to-attain performance benchmarks and was authorized by a compliant board of directors.

Tesla investors have become more anxious about Musk's time commitment to turning around Twitter, and the company's stock sank 3% on Wednesday.

"An early surge of activity is required post-acquisition to restructure the organization," Musk said. "However, I intend to spend less time on Twitter."

Musk also confessed that certain Tesla engineers were aiding in the evaluation of Twitter's technical teams, although he said that this was done "voluntarily" and "after hours."

The billionaire's first two weeks as Twitter's owner have been chaotic, as he abruptly ousted the company's former CEO and other top executives and then lay off half of its employees earlier this month.

Musk wrote an email to Twitter staff early Wednesday, informing them they had until Thursday to decide if they wanted to continue at the firm and work "hard hours at high intensity" or accept a three-month severance payment.
