The winners of the 2022 African Women’s Champions League will receive $400,000 in prize money, Confederation of African Football, CAF, President Patrice Motsepe has announced.
Last year, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa won the maiden edition of the African Women’s Champions League.
They however did not get any prize money from CAF as a reward, a situation that the governing body has addressed with the promise of a $400,000 bonus for the winners of this year’s tournament.
The runners-up will receive $250,000.
CAF had been accused of neglecting the women’s game, but on the eve of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco, Motsepe repeated the need for the game to invest in the women’s game.
