February 16, 2023 Buhari Extends Old N200 Notes Validity By 60 Days

The old N200 notes' expiration date has been extended by 60 days by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari spoke to the nation in the early hours of today, in response to recent events. During his address, he announced that the 200 naira note will remain a valid form of currency in the country for the next 60 days, until April 10, alongside the new naira notes. However, the old 500 and 1000 naira notes should be deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria or other designated locations.

During his Thursday speech to the nation, Buhari made the announcement.

This was disclosed by the President in his speech to the nation on February 16, 2023.

He said, “To further ease the supply pressures, particularly to our citizens, I have given approval to the CBN that the old N200 bank notes be released back into circulation and that it should also be allowed to circulate as legal tender with the new N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes for 60 days from February 10, 2023 to April 10 2023 when the old N200 notes ceases to be legal tender.”
