The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway that claimed the lives of two people and left 15 others injured. The lone crash involved a Toyota Hiace bus at Saapade.
Mrs. Florence Okpe, the FRSC Spokesperson in Ogun State, provided details of the incident on Thursday in Abeokuta. According to her, the accident occurred at 4:34 p.m. and was caused by a tyre burst that led to the driver losing control, causing the vehicle to somersault.
The ill-fated bus, with registration number LSR 585 YH, was carrying 18 passengers, including nine men, five women, two boys, and two girls. Among the injured were eight men, four women, two boys, and one girl. Sadly, the fatalities included a man and a woman.
Okpe stated that the injured victims were taken to PATMAG Hospital in Ogere for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Isara.
She added that the FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, has urged motorists to pay closer attention to the condition of their vehicles, particularly during periods of increased traffic.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and road safety awareness, especially during peak travel seasons.
