According to reports, the North-West, North-Central, and South-West are the targets of coordinated strikes planned by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has mandated increased security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to Punch, the Federal Capital Territory as well as the states of Lagos, Kaduna, Kogi, Katsina, and Zamfara would be targeted by terrorist organizations.
According to reports, commanders of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were informed of the attacks' intended timing.
This was stated in a leaked memo that the agency's headquarters on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, distributed to the state commanders of the organization.
The NSCDC spokeswoman, Shola Odumosu, however, denied receiving any memo and claimed it did not come from the security service.
However, a state commandant confirmed the memo to Punch, adding that they’ve been directed to keep mum over it in order not to cause panic.
The NSCDC commandant who did not want his name mentioned said, “It is true that they (headquarters) issued a security alert to us that we should be careful and we should instruct our men to be watchful. We protect the critical infrastructure and places of worship.
“It is also important that we inform the people so they can be vigilant.”
This comes after terrorists threatened to abduct President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State after taking hostages on the Kaduna-Abuja railway.
Remember that on Sunday, July 24, 2022, gunmen attacked the elite Presidential Guards Brigade on the Bwari-Kubwa road.
Six troops, a captain, a lieutenant, and another person were reportedly slain in the assault.
But after learning about the impending attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP, Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba has mandated increased security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Additionally, the FCT's important locations have seen the deployment of soldiers and police officers by the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police Force.
Speaking to Punch about the police efforts to derail the terrorists' plot, Muyiwa Adejobi claimed that the IG had also instructed the Force Intelligence Bureau to acquire information.
“We are not leaving any stone unturned to fortify the Federal Capital Territory and its environs. The IGP has ordered the additional deployment of assets to strategic areas of the FCT while the Force Intelligence Bureau has been charged to gather robust Intelligence,” he said.
Capt. Godfrey Abakpa, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Guards Brigade, confirmed the placement of troops throughout the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and added that precautions are being taken to thwart any upcoming attacks.
‘’Yesterday (Monday), the Federal Government asked all schools to shut down in Abuja in response to the security threat received by them. As the elite brigade in the FCT, it is our duty to ensure that there is law and order. Everything being done now is a precautionary measure to guard against any security threat or unforeseen circumstances.” he said.
You may recall that the Federal Ministry of Education ordered the closure of all Federal Government Institutions (FGCs) in Abuja on Monday, July 25, 2022 as a result of security threats against the unity colleges.
