October 23, 2024 Beggar Eviction to Begin in FCT on Monday — Wike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to roadside beggars, urging them to stop or face arrest by enforcement agents. This announcement was made by the FCT Minister during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of access roads to the newly initiated judges’ quarters in Katampe.

The minister expressed concern over the alarming number of people begging on the streets, noting that their presence poses a security threat to the metropolis. He then set a deadline of October 27, 2024, for those involved to vacate the streets.

During the same event, the minister recalled revoking the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of several plots of land allocated to Julius Berger, the German construction company, in Katampe District.

The ceremony marked the official launch of the Design and Construction of 40 Judges' Quarters in Abuja, an event attended by dignitaries including the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.

Wike also revealed that 70% of the project funds had already been released following its approval by the Federal Executive Council. Of the 40 units to be constructed, 20 will be allocated to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal.
