Barcelona has officially announced the successful negotiation with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Bay FC to transfer Asisat Oshoala, whose contract will be concluded on June 30, 2024.
Oshoala's departure from Barcelona was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday. During her tenure with the Spanish women's team, Oshoala made a significant impact by scoring 117 goals in 162 games, securing her position as the fourth-highest scorer in the history of Barcelona’s women’s side. Joining Barcelona in January 2019 during the winter transfer window, she immediately made her mark by playing 11 games and scoring eight goals in the middle of the season.
In her first full season (2019/20), Oshoala displayed her goal-scoring prowess by netting 30 goals in 32 games. The following season (2020/21), she played 37 games, scoring 22 goals, and in the 2021/22 season, she continued her impressive form with 28 games and a total of 22 goals, breaking the twenty-goal barrier.
In the 2022–23 campaign, Oshoala played 40 games and found the back of the net 27 times, showcasing her consistency and goal-scoring ability. In the current season, the reigning CAF Women’s Player of the Year has already scored eight goals in 14 games.
As Oshoala bids farewell to Barcelona, she leaves behind a legacy adorned with 14 trophies, including two Champions Leagues, four League titles, three Queen’s Cups, four Spanish Super Cups, and one Catalan Cup. Her time at Barcelona has been marked by remarkable achievements and a prolific goal-scoring record, solidifying her status as one of the most prominent figures in women's football.
