Joselu Scores A Late Double To Sink Bayern Munich, Sending Real Madrid To Their 18th Champions League Final

Following a 4-3 aggregate triumph against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid advanced to the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium thanks to a stunning late double by former Stoke forward Joselu.

The tie was finely poised after four goals were scored in the first leg of the semi-final in Germany last week.

Madrid had an amazing 13-month unbeaten home record and a wealth of European history on their side, but they were on the verge of a second consecutive last-four exit in this competition when Bayern replacement Alphonso Davies scored a 68th-minute rocket.

It stunned a previously upbeat home crowd, but Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti worked his magic, turning to his bench to save the day.

Substitute, Joselu responded to the SOS by capitalizing on Manuel Neuer’s error to square the score after 88 minutes.

Three minutes later, he guided in a second, which was initially disallowed before being allowed after VAR intervened.

Ancelotti’s team endured an extended period of stoppage time, and Matthijs de Lift’s late shot was ruled off for the visitors, ensuring Madrid’s 18th appearance in a European Cup final, only days after winning LaLiga.

It also meant England captain Harry Kane, who was substituted with his team leading, would have a trophy-less maiden season with the German giants.

Real Madrid Take On Bayern Munich In Today’s Semi-Final Showdown

Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final tonight, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Allianz Arena. Vinicius Jr scored twice for Madrid last week, leveling the scores after goals by Leroy Sane and Harry Kane for Bayern.

Thomas Tuchel's side now needs a victory at the Santiago Bernabeu to advance to the final. Tuchel acknowledged the challenge, stating, “It’s one of the most difficult stadiums to win in, but not impossible." He assessed Real's advantage at home as slight, saying, “Given that they’re at home, it’s maybe at 51 percent for Real.”

Madrid clinched their 36th La Liga title over the weekend, with just one league loss all season. Carlo Ancelotti, their manager, emphasized the unpredictability of the upcoming match, stating, “Anything can happen” as Madrid seeks to secure their 14th European Cup. “We respect [Bayern] because they did very well and better than us in the first leg,” Ancelotti admitted.

May 6, 2024 PSG vs Borussia Dortmund Forecast: PSG’s Chance for Redemption in Second Leg

PSG vs Borussia Dortmund Forecast: PSG’s Chance for Redemption in Second Leg

Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Borussia Dortmund for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, trailing 1-0 from the previous encounter in Germany. Niclas Fullkrug's first-half goal proved decisive in Dortmund, setting the stage for a crucial clash at Parc des Princes, where PSG aims to overturn the deficit and secure their first Champions League final since 2020.

Facing injuries, PSG will be without defender Lucas Hernandez for at least six months, prompting potential replacements like Lucas Beraldo or Milan Skriniar. Additionally, Presnel Kimpembe, Layvin Kurzawa, and Sergio Rico remain sidelined, while players like Marco Asensio and Goncalo Ramos vie for starting positions.

Meanwhile, Dortmund, after a significant win against Augsburg, are poised to field their key players like Jadon Sancho, Emre Can, and Fullkrug, who were rested during the weekend. Marco Reus, in stellar form, could earn a starting spot following his standout performance, despite announcing his departure from the club in the summer.

Injuries plague Dortmund, with doubts surrounding players like Julian Ryerson, Ramy Bensebaini, Sebastien Haller, and Karim Adeyemi for the second leg. PSG boasts a strong home record in the Champions League this season, having scored in all five matches at Parc des Princes, with Kylian Mbappe leading their charge with eight goals.

Despite Dortmund's defensive prowess, PSG has shown resilience and attacking intent, particularly evident in their numerous attempts and possession advantage in the first leg. With PSG expected to press for goals early on, Dortmund might adopt a more defensive approach to weather the storm and capitalize on counterattacks.

In a match likely to be filled with tension and tactical maneuvering, PSG's attacking prowess and home advantage could tip the balance in their favor, potentially leading to a reversal of fortunes and progression to the final.

Clark’s Header Secures Liverpool’s Victory Over Manchester United in Women’s Super League Showdown

Jenna Clark's decisive goal secured a 1-0 victory for Liverpool over Manchester United in the Women's Super League, propelling Liverpool above United into fourth place in the standings with one game remaining for both teams.

In a match marked by numerous chances for both sides, Liverpool emerged as the more threatening team, with Clark finding the net just before halftime to break the deadlock.

Early in the game, both goalkeepers were kept busy, with Teagan Micah denying Leah Galton's attempt for United and Mary Earps saving Taylor Hinds' long-range shot for Liverpool. Micah and Earps continued to make crucial saves throughout the match, keeping their respective teams in contention.

Liverpool had several opportunities to score, including Emma Koivisto hitting the post and Mia Enderby's close-range effort going wide. Despite Liverpool's dominance, it wasn't until Marie Hobinger's cross was met by Clark's header in stoppage time that they found the breakthrough.

In the second half, Liverpool maintained control and came close to extending their lead through Sophie Roman Haug and Enderby, while United struggled to create clear-cut chances. Melvine Malard's late header was brilliantly saved by Micah, ensuring Liverpool's victory.
