Italian coach Roberto Landi recently expressed keen interest in the vacant coaching position for the Super Eagles, emphasizing that coaching the Nigerian national team is a coveted dream for any coach. He highlighted Nigeria's abundance of talent and the passionate football culture among Nigerians as compelling reasons for aspiring to lead the team.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently seeking a foreign technical adviser following the team's disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup qualification series. This led to the resignation of former international Finidi George after a brief tenure, succeeding Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who departed after guiding the team to the final of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
Despite the NFF denying talks with AFCON-winning coach Herve Renard, several names, including Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera, have been linked to the position. Landi believes he possesses the credentials to lead the Super Eagles and expressed confidence in his ability to make a significant impact.
In an interview, Landi affirmed his ambition, stating, "It’s a dream for a coach to manage a prestigious national team like Nigeria. If you ask Massimiliano Allegri and other Serie A coaches, coaching Nigeria represents a dream opportunity because you would be representing more than 200 million people and a nation that ranks among the top 20 footballing powers globally, irrespective of FIFA rankings."
