I may retire next year – Ronaldo

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that ‘I could end my career next year, but I could also play until I’m 40, 41.’

Ronaldo had just helped fire Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League when he joined Juve last summer, but the No 7 admits he was becoming too ‘comfortable’ in the Spanish capital.

“I don’t need football to live well, I’m fine financially,” he told TVI.

“What I need are attractive projects and Juve’s is one of them. I’ve always liked this team, they’re the best in Italy and one of the best in the world.

“They’ve always fought to establish themselves in Europe. And after winning in England and Spain, I also won in Italy and I’m happy to be here.

“Everyone wants to win the Champions League, us included, but we mustn’t treat it as an obsession.

“We must things take their course and go step by step. After that, we must remember that money doesn’t make the teams great. Look at how many years Barcelona, Bayern or PSG haven’t won the Champions League.”

Sancho also scored in their opening league game this term – Saturday’s 5-1 win over Augsburg.

Signed from Manchester City in 2017, his previous deal ran until 2022.

Sancho, who was part of Watford’s academy before joining City, made his England debut against Croatia in October 2018 and has six caps.

Give D’Tigress cash reward, fans tell Buhari

Basketball fans have asked President Muhammadu Buhari to reward D’Tigress financially over their victory at 2019 AfroBasket Women’s Nation’s Cup title in Dakar, Senegal.

The fans made the demand while reacting to Buhari’s press statement congratulating the senior national women’s basketball team for retaining their AfroBasket title.

They complained that the basketball team deserved to be celebrated beyond issuing of press releases.

The basketball lovers said they expected the federal government to host D’Tigress and “spray dollars on them like their football counterparts”.

D’Tigress had on Sunday reclaimed the title they won in 2017 by beating hosts Senegal 60-55.

One of them, Adepitan Ayo, said, “It should not just be about issuing press statements in the media, motivate these babes with money. Let them also feel important. They have done us proud.”

Another fan, Uzoma Eke, accused the Federal Government of paying more attention to football and neglecting others sports.

“They have done something historic and I expect that a better reward would be given to them. They also deserve some cash rewards like we did for the Super Eagles,” he said.

“It is high time we held other sports in high esteem too. Not everyone loves football, I am a fan of basketball and I don’t like how our players are treated,” another fan, identified as Ike, added.

AkeIyanu, who identified himself as a basketball player, wondered why Nigeria billionaires preferred to donate to only footballers.

“Where is (Aliko) Dangote, Femi Otedola and even Governor (Babajide) Sanwo-Olu? We need you to motivate us too,” he tweeted.

“I have seen Buhari watching the Super Eagles match. I am waiting to see him being shown watch basketball,” another fan, Chidi, reacted.
