Victor Osimhen scored twice for Lille, who beat Saint Etienne 3-0 in Wednesday’s Ligue 1 clash at the Pierre Mauroy stadium, Sports Extra reports.
The 20-year-old striker shot Lille into the lead 20 minutes after coming on for Loic Remy in the 17th minute.
Jonathan Bamba had added the second from the spot six minutes earlier after being upended by Mathieu Debuchy.
The former Wolfsburg striker then sealed the points with a fine turn-and-strike 15 minutes from the end, taking his tally to four goals from the season’s opening three matches.
He has now scored four goals in five shots on targets in three Ligue 1 games for Lille.
Lille sit on six points after their second straight home win, level with five clubs including champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Saint-Etienne, who dropped down to 13th after their first defeat of the new campaign, were left to rue a penalty award being chalked off by VAR in the 80th minute, with footage showing that Jonathan Ikone had touched the ball with his shoulder rather than his arm.
Lille will face Rennes in their next game on Sunday and Osimhen will be aiming to extend his scoring streak.
