Osimhen hits brace again in Ligue 1

Victor Osimhen scored twice for Lille, who beat Saint Etienne 3-0 in Wednesday’s Ligue 1 clash at the Pierre Mauroy stadium, Sports Extra reports.

The 20-year-old striker shot Lille into the lead 20 minutes after coming on for Loic Remy in the 17th  minute.

Jonathan Bamba had added the second from the spot six minutes earlier after being upended by Mathieu Debuchy.

The former Wolfsburg striker then sealed the points with a fine turn-and-strike 15 minutes from the end, taking his tally to four goals from the season’s opening three matches.

He has now scored four goals in five shots on targets in three Ligue 1 games for Lille.

Lille sit on six points after their second straight home win, level with five clubs including champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Saint-Etienne, who dropped down to 13th after their first defeat of the new campaign, were left to rue a penalty award being chalked off by VAR in the 80th minute, with footage showing that Jonathan Ikone had touched the ball with his shoulder rather than his arm.

Lille will face Rennes in their next game on Sunday and Osimhen will be aiming to extend his scoring streak.

Man U to shoulder 90% of Sanchez wage at Inter

Manchester United may be about to get Alexis Sanchez off their hands but they will still be saddled with an enormous wage bill, according to reports.

Sanchez has become a figure of ridicule at United since joining from Arsenal in January 2018, scoring just three league goals in 32 appearances and increasingly being confined to the bench or the stands.

The club have been trying to find a club for Sanchez but his enormous wages have hamstrung their efforts to offload him with the player understandably unwilling to accept a massive pay cut.

The Chile international is at last set to join Inter Milan along with fellow United outcast Romelu Lukaku, but the Mail claim it will not be saving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side much money at all as they have only been able to agree a loan move for the forward.

August 28, 2019 Inter Milan have agreed a loan deal to sign forward Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United.

Inter Milan have agreed a loan deal to sign forward Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United.

Inter boss Antonio Conte is keen to sign Sanchez before the European transfer window closes on Monday.

If a deal goes through, Sanchez will link up with ex-United team-mate Romelu Lukaku, the striker having joined the Serie A club for £74m this summer.

However, Inter have not agreed an option to buy Sanchez at the end of the loan agreement.

United’s highest earner, Sanchez is thought to earn around £400,000 a week, a figure way outside of Inter’s current pay structure.

It has been suggested United may subsidise his salary as part of a deal and last week Inter offered to pay £150,000 of Sanchez’s weekly wages, but United wanted more.

Sanchez has had a disastrous 19 months at Old Trafford since leaving Emirates Stadium in January 2018, scoring just five times in 45 appearances.

US Open 2019: Naomi Osaka survives scare, Simona Halep & Petra Kvitova advance

Defending champion Naomi Osaka overcame a nervous start to scrape past Russian 20-year-old Anna Blinkova 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 in the US Open first round.

Wimbledon champion Simona Halep was also taken to a third set by American Nicole Gibbs but won 6-3 3-6 6-2.

And American 15-year-old Coco Gauff came from a set and a break down to beat Anastasia Potapova 3-6 6-2 6-4.

Osaka was 4-1 down in the opening set before she won five games in a row to take the lead.

In a second set riddled with errors, she saw off three sets points and held match point before losing a tie-break.

The Japanese world number one, who made 50 unforced errors in the match, fought off three more break points in the decider and will now face Polish world number 53 Magda Linette in round two.

Romanian Halep took a fairly comfortable first set against Gibbs, ranked 135th, but despite holding off six set points, was broken for a fourth time late in the second.

But she cruised through the decider, breaking twice to ensure she avoided three successive first-round defeats in New York.

The fourth seed will face world number 116 Taylor Townsend, another American, in the second round.

Gauff, who stunned Venus Williams on her way to reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon this year, faces Hungarian doubles specialist Timea Babos next.
