Vinicius Rescues Late Point For Madrid

Vinicius Jr marked his 100th Real Madrid appearance with a late equalizer against Real Sociedad in La Liga.

Madrid dominated the first half with Mariano and Raphael Varane heading off the bar in the space of two minutes.

Real Sociedad were much improved after the break and Portu scored an excellent header from Nacho Monreal's cross.

Zinedine Zidane changed his front three after 61 minutes and one of the replacements - Vinicius - finished from Lucas Vazquez's cross late on.

The draw brought to an end Madrid's five-game winning run in all competitions and means they missed out on the chance to overtake Barcelona into second place.

Real Sociedad remain in fifth place.

Man Utd And Chelsea Battle To Dour Draw At Stamford Bridge

Manchester United lost further ground on Premier League leaders Manchester City after they played out a drab goalless deadlock with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ole Gunnar Solkjaer's side remain second but are now 12 points adrift of City while the result left Chelsea outside the top four a point behind West Ham United.

Manchester United - who have lost only one of their last 20 league games - thought they were about to be offered the chance to make a breakthrough in the first half, but a penalty appeal for handball against Callum Hudson-Odoi was dismissed by referee Stuart Attwell after he was instructed to consult a pitchside monitor by the video assistant referee.

Chelsea, who remain unbeaten under new manager Thomas Tuchel, had chances but United keeper David de Gea made a fine second-half save from Hakim Ziyech while opposite number Edouard Mendy saved well from Scott McTominay and Fred was narrowly off target with a long-range effort. Mendy also punched away a late effort from Bruno Fernandes.

In the end, however, this was another game to add to the list of meetings between the so-called top six that ended in stalemate.

Bale Double Inspires Spurs To Comfortable Victory

Gareth Bale scored twice and made another as Tottenham cruised to an easy Premier League win over Burnley that boosted their hopes of European qualification.

Spurs had lost five of their previous six league matches but went ahead inside two minutes when Bale converted Son Heung-min's low cross.

Bale's superb long pass released Harry Kane to net Tottenham's second, before Lucas Moura added a third from Sergio Reguilon's delivery.

Son was the architect for the fourth as he ran at the Burnley defence before finding Bale, and the Wales forward curled a fine finish into the far corner to seal the emphatic win.

The victory takes Jose Mourinho's side up to eighth. They are six points behind fourth-placed West Ham, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot, but have a game in hand on the Hammers.

Collin Morikawa Cruises To WGC Title In Florida

American Collin Morikawa hit a three-under-par final round of 69 to win the WGC-Workday Championship by three shots at The Concession in Florida.

The 24-year-old led by two overnight and, after bogeying the second, carded four birdies to win on 18 under.

Norway's Viktor Hovland finished with a 67 to end joint second on 15 under with Americans Brooks Koepka and Billy Horschel, who both shot two-under 70s.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy closed with a 71 to finish on 12 under.

McIlroy was four shots off Morikawa going into the last day but struggled to get a challenge going with a round which included five birdies and four bogeys.

"What a week," said Morikawa, the 2020 US PGA Championship winner, who has now won four PGA Tour titles in 19 months.

"I was working on so much the past couple of weeks. My game felt so good and I'm so excited right now."

The year's first World Golf Championship event in Bradenton replaced the WGC-Mexico Championship, which was cancelled because of Covid-19 concerns.
