Rohr – Get me Ejiara, not Eze

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr is reportedly desperate for the Nigeria Football Federation to prioritise a move for Reading’s Ovie Ejiara over Eberechi Eze.

The Reading’s on-loan midfielder who is valued at £1m has shown versatility under Mark Bowen at the Madejski Stadium and Rohr is keen to add the Liverpool player to his squad.

“He’s (Ovie Ejiara) a good player no doubt and I will prefer him in the team now than the player (Eberechi Eze) the Federation are in talks with,” Rohr revealed.

“We will contact him and know what must be done to make him play for us. He is a better player than Eze.

“My fears are if we start chasing him in the media, England may join the race and it could be difficult.”

Neither Ejiara nor Eze are seemingly not prepared to pledge their allegiance to Nigeria at the moment with the pair already members of the England U21 squad.

Eze has all but declined from playing for Nigeria after informing NFF President, Amaju Pinnick that he wants to focus solely on club football.

Pinnick met with Eze in London last month in a bid to lure the 21-year-old to switch allegiance to Nigeria but he requested for the chance to continue to focus on his club career which is going well so far, and that further progress will be made in due course.

Eze once trained with the Super Eagles before a planned international friendly with Burkina Faso was cancelled in March 2017.

He has been impressive for QPR in the English Championship this season scoring six goals and providing four assists in 18 games.

Joshua welcomes Usyk fight

Anthony Joshua insists he is ready to “rock and roll” with Oleksandr Usyk, if a WBO title defence is enforced next after his points win over Andy Ruiz Jr.

Britain’s heavyweight star regained the WBO, WBA ‘super’ and IBF titles in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, and WBO president Paco Valcárcel was quick to tweet that mandatory challenger Usyk must receive a title shot within 180 days.

“In 180 days? Let’s rock and roll mate,” said Joshua at his post-fight press conference, when asked about Usyk.

“No problem,” he added.

“There’s an IBF mandatory, there’s a WBO mandatory,” promoter Eddie Hearn said

Chukwueze is world’s ninth best U-21 player

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze has been voted as the ninth best under-21 player in the world.

This was revealed in the voting details for Kopa Trophy Award revealed on Tuesday.

Chukwueze tied for ninth place with Valencia’s Lee Kang-in, who won the Golden Ball award at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

On Monday, Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt won the Kopa Trophy at the ceremony of the Ballon d’Or at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, Vinicius Junior and Andriy Lunin were among the top five players.

Arsenal midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi was the best ranked player representing a Premier League club, finishing joint sixth with Kai Havertz, while Everton’s Kean was eight in the classification.

An U-17 World Cup winner with Nigeria in 2015, Chukwueze joined the Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Chukwueze – who came close to joining Arsenal in 2016 – arrived at Villarreal from Nigeria’s Diamond Academy in August 2017.

December 4, 2019 Joshua to get £46m, Ruiz £10m for rematch

Joshua to get £46m, Ruiz £10m for rematch

Anthony Joshua will earn a British fight purse record of £46m for his rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr, reports say.

The former unified heavyweight champion is aiming to regain the titles he lost to Ruiz Jr in their last bout on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia massively outbid rival venues in New York and Las Vegas, and the Daily Star claim Joshua will pocket the biggest payday in British boxing history.

Ricky Hatton’s £20m fight purse against Floyd Mayweather in 2007 stands as the largest pay day for a British boxer, but Joshua will eclipse that figure.

While Joshua earns just under £50m for his appearance in Saudi Arabia, Ruiz Jr will receive just over £10m for the second fight.

Joshua’s previous best payday was the £18m he earned in his first showdown against Ruiz Jr at Madison Square Garden last June.

With Sky Sports charging £24.95 for the pay-per-view, Joshua’s earnings are set to go even further than £46m.  Joshua is the favourite going into the second fight, just as he was for the first bout.
