Mourinho Apologizes To Fans Following Spurs’ Europa League Exit

Jose Mourinho apologized to the Tottenham fans and said his players failed "at the basics of life" after they threw away a 2-0 lead to be knocked out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.

A second-leg display described as "diabolical" and "a disaster" by their ex-player and manager Glenn Hoddle saw Spurs eliminated in the last 16 in Croatia after extra time.

A hat-trick from Mislav Orsic did the damage, reversing the comfortable lead Mourinho's side had built in last week's first leg, prompting Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to call the performance a "disgrace".

"They [Dinamo] left to sweat, energy, blood. In the end, they left even tears of happiness," Mourinho told BT Sport. "They were very humble and committed. I have to praise them.

"On the other side, my team - I repeat, my team - didn't look like it was playing an important match. If for any one of them it is not important, for me it is.

"I am disappointed for a difference of attitude of one team to another. I feel sorry that my team is the team that didn't bring to the game, not just the basics of football but the basics of life, which is to respect our jobs and to give everything.

"I can only apologize to the Tottenham supporters. I hope they feel the same way I feel. Today is live or die - and at this moment, we die."

Resting on their 2-0 first-leg lead, Tottenham looked relatively comfortable for just over an hour in Zagreb, until Orsic's first goal began to swing the tie away from them.

He leveled the tie with eight minutes of normal time left and then won it for his side early in the second period of extra time.

Tottenham forced two good saves from home goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic late in the game but it was too little, too late.

Pogba Edges Man Utd Past Ac Milan

Paul Pogba returned from injury to send Manchester United into the Europa League quarter-finals and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the midfielder will continue to make a big impact in the final stages of the season.

The Frenchman scored the winner against AC Milan at the San Siro three minutes after being introduced as a half-time substitute in the second leg of an evenly poised last-16 tie.

"The boys have done remarkably without Paul but we know his qualities," Solskjaer said.

"He makes a very, very big difference to us. Paul has been working really hard, but you could see he couldn't play more than 45 minutes."

The 28-year-old was making his first appearance in the competition this season, after coming back from a thigh injury which has kept him out since 6 February.

Until his intervention, Solskjaer's side had rarely looked like breaking the deadlock against a well-organised Milan team who also appeared capable of adding to the late away goal that had swung the tie in their favour at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was summoned from the bench to try to rescue the tie, but United goalkeeper Dean Henderson superbly saved to prevent the Swede from scoring against his former team with a back-post header.

United join fellow English side Arsenal in the draw for the quarter and semi-finals on Friday.

Michail Antonio Pledges His ‘International Future To Jamaica’ As He ‘Snubs’ England

West Ham striker, Michail Antonio has reportedly snubbed England and officially pledged his international future to Jamaica.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Jamaica FA were making plans to recruit up to 15 English stars ahead of next year's World Cup in Qatar.  Joining Antonio on the list were Demarai Gray, Max Aarons, and Liam Moore, and it has now been reported that the West Ham man is the first to confirm his place in the Jamaica squad.

Sky Sports report that Antonio has now definitely pledged his allegiance to the Caribbean island - where his parents were born - in a bid to play more international football having missed out regularly on England squads of late.

Jamaica is also hopeful of persuading Isaac Hayden, Andre Gray, Ethan Pinnock Mason Holgate, Kemar Roofe, Rolando Aarons, Curtis Tilt, Jamal Lowe, Amari'i Bell, and Kasey Palmer to represent them.

JFF President, Michael Ricketts confirmed that many of the players they want to call-up are in the process of acquiring Jamaican passports.

'I see Andre Gray, Demarai Gray, Isaac Hayden, who actually approached the JFF about representing us, Mason Holgate, Liam Moore, who already has his Jamaican passport, Nathan Redmond, Kemar Roofe, and Ivan Toney. All of these we are in the process of acquiring their Jamaican passports,' Ricketts confirmed this week.

'The process is becoming a little tedious because of the pandemic but the process is ongoing and we are hopeful we will get the passports for these gentlemen in a reasonable time.

'We have been having discussions. I just spoke with the Permanent Secretary for Sport and he has agreed to try and help us to facilitate and to expedite the process.'

In 2016, turned down the chance to represent Jamaica before earning an invite to England squads by Sam Allardyce and Gareth Southgate but did not make his debut.

Speaking at that time after he was called up to the England squad by Allardyce, he said: 'I turned down an approach from Jamaica in March, and for this to happen so quickly, I'm buzzing. I just want to keep my feet on the floor.

'In my first season in the Premier League, even though I had good stats, the England manager would have had to take a risk on me.

'It looks like the gaffer now believes that I've done enough to be in there, so hopefully, I can prove him right.'

The forward was then called up by Southgate in 2017 but he was forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
