Tobi Amusan Appointed Nigeria’s Flagbearer for Paris 2024 Olympics

World record holder Tobi Amusan has been selected as the country’s flagbearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony.

This appointment marks a historic moment for Nigerian athletics, as Amusan becomes the first track and field athlete in two decades to receive this honor.

A tweet by Making of Champions on social media platform X on Tuesday said, “Tobi Amusan has been named as Nigeria’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of #Paris2024 #Olympics – she becomes the first athlete from Athletics in 20yrs, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games, to have such honors.”

Amusan, known for her outstanding performances in the 100m hurdles, will lead the Nigerian contingent during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony.

This recognition comes as a testament to her achievements and her status as one of Nigeria’s most prominent athletes on the global stage.

In addition to Amusan’s appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee has made another key selection for the country’s Olympic team.

The post stated, “In another appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) also announced Badminton player, Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris.”

These appointments set the stage for Nigeria’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

July 22, 2024 PSG Close To An Agreement On Personal Terms With Manchester United Sancho

PSG Close To An Agreement On Personal Terms With Manchester United Sancho

Paris Saint-Germain is "close to agreeing personal terms" with Jadon Sancho for a move to the French capital and plans to "hold talks" with Manchester United later this week about the potential transfer.

According to Mark Brus in 'Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing,' the Ligue 1 champions have a strong interest in the 24-year-old winger as they look to replace the recently departed Kylian Mbappe. PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, is reportedly "keen" on Sancho after being impressed by his performance against PSG in last season’s Champions League semi-final while he was on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

The Daily Briefing reports that "positive talks" have occurred between PSG officials and Sancho’s representatives, but it "remains to be seen" if the French club can make an offer compelling enough for Manchester United to agree to sell.

United prefers not to sell Sancho this summer due to Marcus Rashford's poor form last year and ongoing doubts about Antony's ability to perform at this level, making Sancho a valuable asset for Ten Hag’s squad. However, the club would consider offers "in the region of €50-60m" (£42-£50m). PSG is expected to make an opening offer of around €40 million, which is likely to be rejected but could start negotiations.

Both clubs are already familiar with each other as United has been in talks over a move for PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte. PSG is asking for up to €70 million for Ugarte, a price likely beyond United’s reach. However, there is optimism for a compromise since PSG wants to add Joao Neves from Benfica, creating a need to free up space in their midfield.

Another potential link between the two clubs is Xavi Simons, the talented Dutch midfielder who impressed on loan at RB Leipzig last season. Although Simons is a PSG player, he is expected to secure a permanent move away from Paris this summer. United has shown long-standing interest in Simons, having reportedly offered €50 million last summer. According to The Peoples Person, United has reignited their pursuit and is working on bringing Simons to Old Trafford.

Given United's serious interest in two PSG midfielders and their need to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, along with PSG's pursuit of Sancho, a swap deal or part-exchange offer might be an ideal solution for both clubs.
