Man Utd. Face Roma In Europa Semi Finals

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said it is time for Manchester United to take the next step and reach a first final since 2017 after they eased past Granada to set up a Europa League last-four meeting with Roma.

United won the Europa League in their last final but have lost all four semi-finals in which they have featured during Solskjaer's reign, including in this competition last season.

Their progress to a fifth became inevitable after Edinson Cavani provided a smart finish to Paul Pogba's sixth-minute flicked header to extend their aggregate lead to 3-0, after a two-goal win in Spain last week.

It was a notable for the Uruguayan veteran, whose first European goal for United was his 50th in total in continental competition, and ninth of the season overall and will intensify talk about whether the 34-year-old will sign an extension to his contract, which expires at the end of June.

United scored a second in stoppage time when Jesus Vallejo turned Alex Telles' cross into his own net.

"We will relish the chance to go to a final," said Solskjaer, who took over in December 2018.

"We want to use disappointments from the defeats we have had to motivate us to get to the final.

"The next step for this team is to get to a final and win a trophy. That will give this group of players something extra."

As Roma came through a nervy night at the Stadio Olimpico against Ajax, it means a reunion for United old boys Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling, who has been sidelined in recent weeks with a knee injury.

Aubameyang Treated For Malaria In Hospital

Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been treated in hospital after he contracted malaria while on international duty with Gabon.

The 31-year-old scored in Gabon's 3-0 win over DR Congo in Africa Cup of Nations qualification on 25 March.

He played in Arsenal's Europa League quarter-final first leg against Slavia Prague on 8 April but missed his side's win in the return fixture on Thursday and Sunday's win over Sheffield United.

"I've spent a few days in hospital this week," he said via an Instagram post.

"I'm already feeling much better every day, thanks to the great doctors that detected and treated the virus so quickly.

"I wasn't really feeling myself the last couple weeks but will be back stronger than ever soon!"

Malaria is a tropical disease spread by mosquitoes. Symptoms usually appear seven to 18 days after infection, but it is not contagious.

Ahmed Musa Explains Why He Returned To Kano Pillars

Super Eagles of Nigeria captain, Ahmed Musa has explained the reason behind his shock return to Nigerian club, Kano Pillars.

Musa, 28, teamed up with his former club Kano Pillars on Tuesday April 13 after reaching an agreement with the Northern club, which includes a clause that allows him to leave when he finds a club in Europe.

Musa has been without a club since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr in October and in January he was close to joining Premier League club West Bromwich Albion but a deal failed to materialize due to financial difficulties.

Nigerians were left  shocked by his return to Kano Pillars where he started his career and played from 2009 to 2012, before leaving for Europe. Musa has now explained his reason for the move.

"Anything that improves the image of Nigerian football is something that I strive to embark on and Kano Pillars holds a special place in my heart," Musa told BBC Sport Africa.

"It's the team that helped me become the professional footballer I am today, so this is more than just football but a very strong bond."

After leaving Nigeria in 2012, Musa teamed up with Russian side CSKA Moscow and then went on to play for Leicester City.

Musa won three Russian Premier League titles, Russian Cup, Russian Super Cup, Saudi Professional League trophy and Saudi Super Cup and recently helped the Super Eagles qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

Slavia Prague Defender Ondrej Kudela Given 10-Match Ban For Racist Behavior

Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela has been given a 10-match ban by UEFA for "racist behaviour" towards Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, who will serve a three-game suspension.

Kamara said he was racially abused by Kudela during the second leg of Rangers' Europa League last-16 tie against Slavia at Ibrox on March 18. Kudela insisted he swore at a Rangers player after being fouled but denied using racist language.

The centre-back had been provisionally suspended for one match as UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings, which ruled him out of his side's 1-1 draw at Arsenal last week.

The Czech Republic international will now be ineligible for the next nine games played by either his club in Europe or his country, including this summer's European Championship.

As it stands, Kudela will miss the remainder of Slavia's Europa League campaign - they play the second leg of their quarter-final tie against Arsenal on Thursday night - plus at least five matches at Euro 2020, including the Czech Republic's group games against Scotland and England.
