Spurs Fight Back To Win Against Southampton

Son Heung-min's late penalty capped a Tottenham fightback against Southampton that handed interim head coach Ryan Mason victory in his first match in charge.

Former Spurs midfielder Mason, the Premier League's youngest head coach at the age of 29, succeeded Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese was sacked on Monday.

He made a winning start to his tenure after Gareth Bale curled in a superb equaliser and then a late VAR intervention saw Son convert after a Moussa Djenepo foul on Harry Winks was shown to be just inside the penalty area.

Until Bale's composed finish on the hour mark the hosts had been second best to a slick Southampton side who went in front when Danny Ings glanced in James Ward-Prowse's corner.

With Harry Kane missing and still a doubt for Sunday's Carabao Cup final, Spurs were flat for long periods and appeared to have been affected by their tumultuous few days, with Mourinho departing fewer than 24 hours after the club announced they were to join a new European Super League.

Real Madrid Go Top With Win At Cadiz

Real Madrid went level on points with Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga with a win at Cadiz in a week dominated by the announcement and seeming collapse of the European Super League.

There were fan protests outside the ground against the new league, which Real had intended to compete in.

Inside, the visitors ran riot, sealing the win with three first-half goals.

Karim Benzema scored twice - the first a penalty - and provided the assist for Alvaro Odriozola to head in.

The result gets Real's La Liga challenge back on track after the minor slip in drawing 0-0 at Getafe on Sunday.

Juventus Chairman, Agnelli Says ESL Project Can Not Proceed

Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli says the European Super League project cannot proceed following the withdrawal of the six Premier League clubs.

Agnelli was one of the chief architects of the breakaway plans, which involved 12 clubs from England, Spain and Italy, but with teams withdrawing, he accepts it cannot now go ahead.

Agnelli, when asked about ESL said, "I remain convinced of the beauty of that project, of the value that it would have developed to the pyramid, of the creation of the best competition in the world, but evidently no. I don't think that project is now still up and running."

The six Premier League clubs involved all withdrew within hours of each other on Tuesday following a furious backlash to the plans, Italian side Inter Milan are also set to withdraw as they no longer intend to be involved with the project.

Agnelli was described as a "snake and a liar" by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin on Monday after the announcement of the breakaway plans on Sunday evening.

Agnelli resigned his position as chairman of the European Clubs' Association on Sunday and refused to take calls from Ceferin.

All Six Premier League Clubs Pull Out Of Proposed European Super League

All six Premier League teams involved in the European Super League (ESL) have now withdrawn from the competition.

Manchester City were the first club to pull out after Chelsea had signaled their intent to do so by preparing documentation to withdraw.

The other four sides - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham - have all now followed suit.

It was condemned by fans, football authorities and government ministers in the UK and across Europe by Uefa and league associations.

The Super League said it would reconsider "the most appropriate steps to reshape the project".

The 12-team Super League was announced on Sunday to widespread condemnation.

The remaining six clubs, Spain's Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid and Italy's AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus are yet to comment on the withdrawal of the English sides.

"Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to the pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations," the ESL said, adding it was "convinced that the current status quo of European football needs to change".
