Carla Suarez Navarro Completes Treatment For Hodgkin Lymphoma

Carla Suarez Navarro has said she has completed treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma and is cured of her cancer.

The former world No 6, who has two WTA titles to her name, had announced last September that she was diagnosed with early stage Hodgkin lymphoma and would need to go through six months of chemotherapy.

She had planned to compete at last year's US Open but withdrew a week before it began for health reasons.

The Spaniard revealed her diagnosis a week later, saying doctors told her she had a small, curable lymphoma that was detected at an early stage.

Suarez Navarro had said in late 2019 that she would retire at the end of 2020 but the 32-year-old now intends to keep playing after her final season was interrupted by COVID-19 and her health issues.

Khris Middleton added 24 points, Bobby Portis had 23 and Brook Lopez 16 for the Bucks, who snapped a two-game losing streak. Jrue Holiday had 12 points and 11 assists for the Bucks (36-22).

The Bucks hit their first 10 shots of the game, bolted to a 20-point advantage and led 77-60 at halftime. Milwaukee sank 13 of 21 first-half 3-point attempts and was led by Middleton with 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Embiid paced the Sixers with 17 at the break.

Philadelphia's Ben Simmons (illness) did not travel to Milwaukee, missing a third consecutive game. Reserve Furkan Korkmaz also sat out after tweaking his ankle Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns.

Joel Embiid led the Sixers (39-20) with 24 points. Shake Milton added 20 and Tobias Harris had 18 in his first game back after missing the previous three with knee soreness. Seth Curry, Tyrese Maxey and Mike Scott contributed 11 each.

The Sixers have now dropped three in a row without Simmons. The Bucks, who made 20 treys on 40 attempts, will host the Sixers again on Saturday.

Atletico Return To La Liga Summit With Win Against Huesca

Atletico Madrid returned to the top of La Liga with a win over Huesca 24 hours after withdrawing from the European Super League.

Real Madrid had replaced neighbors Atletico at the summit after a 3-0 win over Cadiz on Wednesday.

On Thursday, goals by Angel Correa and Yannick Carrasco helped Atletico see off struggling Huesca.

Diego Simeone's side are three points clear at the top with six games remaining.

Atletico had apologized to fans for causing "confusion" after ending their involvement in the breakaway European Super League.

They are chasing a first La Liga title since 2014 but still have to play title rivals Barcelona away on 8 May.

Huesca are 18th in the table, one point from safety with six games remaining.

They went close to taking a surprise early lead but Dimitrios Siovas' close range shot was saved by Jan Oblak before Argentina forward Correa scored his third goal in two games.

Carrasco added the second while Marcos Llorente finished the match with two assists.

Messi Scores Twice As Barcelona Thrash Getafe

Lionel Messi scored two goals as Barcelona beat Getafe to climb to third in the La Liga table, two points behind second-placed Real Madrid.

Messi broke the deadlock before lowly Getafe equalized through Clement Lenglet's own goal.

A mix-up between Sofian Chakla and keeper David Soria restored Barca's lead and Messi made it 3-1.

Enes Unal's penalty gave Getafe hope but goals by Ronald Araujo and Antoine Griezmann sealed the points.

Barcelona are five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, who they host on 8 May, but have one game in hand.

Earlier in the day, Barca issued a statement about signing up to the European Super League, stating it was a "historic opportunity" to guarantee football's financial sustainability.

On the pitch, Ronald Koeman's side turned on the style in an incident-packed first half which saw Messi hit the bar and the post for the 2021 Copa del Rey winners.

However, they struggled after half-time and lived dangerously until late goals by substitute Araujo and Griezmann, from the penalty spot, secured the win.
