Leicester Move Closer To Champions League With Win Over Crystal Palace

Leicester City moved closer to Champions League qualification as they came from behind to beat Crystal Palace.

Wilfried Zaha put the visitors ahead after only 12 minutes, with a first-time finish following a fine through ball from Eberechi Eze.

But Timothy Castagne equalized for the Foxes within five minutes of the second half by firing the ball into the roof of the net after being set up by Kelechi Iheanacho.

Palace nearly retook the lead but a superb sliding challenge from Jonny Evans denied Christian Benteke what would have been a tap-in into an unguarded goal.

That missed chance proved crucial as Iheanacho scored his 12th goal in nine games, when he cut inside on to his left foot and blasted the ball past goalkeeper Vicente Guaita for a late winner.

The result leaves the Foxes third in the Premier League, but takes them seven points clear of fifth-placed West Ham with five matches to go.

April 27, 2021 Serie A To Punish Breakaway Clubs

Serie A To Punish Breakaway Clubs

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has approved a rule that would ban clubs who sign up to breakaway competitions from competing in Serie A.

It follows the collapse of the proposed European Super League which involved Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

The tournament sparked furious backlash but Juve, plus Barcelona and Real Madrid, are yet to abandon the project.

Clubs playing in leagues not recognized by FIFA or UEFA will now not be able to play in domestic tournaments in Italy.

The FIGC added a new clause to its rules underlining that clubs registering for national leagues must agree they will not join private, unauthorized competitions.

Under the European Super League proposals announced on 18 April, clubs agreed to play in the new competition but wanted to continue to play in their domestic leagues.

April 26, 2021 JAMB Registers Over 300,000 For UTME, 8,000 For DE

JAMB Registers Over 300,000 For UTME, 8,000 For DE

The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), has so far registered more than 300,000 candidates for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

“Total profile code generated so far is 497,528.

“Total UTME pin vended is 344, 115, while total pin vended for DE is 10, 848. Total registered candidates for UTME, 316, 132 and total registered candidates for DE is 8, 490.

“Total candidates who have indicated interest in sitting for the mock UTME are 126, 402,’’ it said.

According to the bulletin, candidates can send their National Identity Number (NIN) from any SIM of their choice provided the SIM has not been used by another candidate to register for UTME/DE in the past.

JAMB said that this was contrary to its earlier statement that only the SIM that was linked to a candidate’s NIN could be used to send their NIN to 55019.

NAN reports that the board had on Sunday said that candidates could only generate their profiles by sending their details to 55019 on the SIM linked to their NIN.

It, however, advised them to follow the right process to be successfully registered.

“The right process is to send the word `NIN’, allow one space in between, and then insert the eleven digits NIN number and send to 55019.

“Any other process is wrong and would not generate the profile code for the candidate.’’

NAN also reports that the mock UTME earlier scheduled to hold on April 30, is now to take place on May 20, while the examination will take place from June 5 to June 19.

Registration for UTME/DE which began on April 8, will end on May 15.

Inter Milan One Step Closer To First Title Since 2010 After Win Against Verona

Antonio Conte's Inter Milan moved a step closer to winning their first Serie A title since 2010 with a hard-fought victory against Hellas Verona.

Former Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian scored the game's only goal, firing home in the 76th minute after being found by Achraf Hakimi.

The win means Inter are 13 points clear of second-place AC Milan, who play on Monday, with five games remaining.

Defending champions Juventus are third after they were held 1-1 by Fiorentina.

Dusan Vlahovic converted a first-half penalty to give Fiorentina the lead but former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata equalised when he fired into the top corner after spotting the goalkeeper off his line.
