Man City Fight Back To Beat PSG In Champions League Semi-Final

Manchester City produced a superb display to come from behind and take control of their Champions League semi-final with victory against Paris St-Germain in France.

Pep Guardiola's side fought their way through a scintillating early PSG surge when they fell behind to Marquinhos' header, glanced in from Angel di Maria's corner after 15 minutes, to dominate after the break and turn this first leg tie in Paris on its head.

City, who had threatened before the break when Phil Foden missed a great chance, were much more positive and got the reward they deserved after 64 minutes when Kevin de Bruyne's menacing cross evaded everyone in the penalty area and drifted beyond motionless PSG keeper Kaylor Navas.

PSG, with Neymar fading and Kylian Mbappe subdued, were ragged and Riyad Mahrez put City in a great position to reach their first Champions League final when his left-foot free-kick went through the wall to beat Navas seven minutes later.

And to complete PSG's misery, former Everton midfield man Idrissa Gueye was rightly shown a red card late on for a dreadful challenge on Ilkay Gundogan.

German FA Considers Hansi Flick For National Team Job

Germany's football association (DFB) said Tuesday it planned to hold talks with outgoing Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick about becoming the replacement for national team boss Joachim Loew after Euro 2020.

Flick will leave the reigning German champions at the end of the season after he asked Bayern to be released from his contract, with RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann named as his successor.

"It's well known that Hansi Flick is held in high regard by the federation. We can confirm that, in this context, we will now also have discussions with him and Bayern officials," a DFB spokesperson told AFP subsidiary SID.

"At this time, we will not be making any more comment on the rest of the procedure, which we will coordinate internally first with all the parties concerned, with all the necessary care and calm," the spokesperson added.

Flick won the Bundesliga and German Cup last season and added the Champions League and his side could wrap up the German title again early next month, but his relationship with Bayern's powerful sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has deteriorated over transfer policy.

The 56-year-old is considered the German FA's primary choice to take over from Loew, who is set to step down after the European Championship following 15 years in charge.

The DFB had repeatedly said in recent weeks it would not approach a coach still under contract, and ruled out paying any compensation to a club.

Premier League In Talks To Scrap UK TV Rights Auction

The Premier League has held talks with broadcasters about scrapping its next domestic media rights auction.

The government is now considering whether to sanction a rollover of the current £4.7bn deal.

Secured in 2018, that sale represented a 10% drop in value.

Clubs are concerned there could be another fall if the usual open-market auction begins as planned next month for the three-year cycle between 2022 and 2025.

The value of rights for domestic leagues in Europe also appears to have peaked.

Talks have been held with the existing live rights holders Sky, BT and Amazon about extending their current deals on similar terms.

But a rollover is now being considered on the basis it would provide all parties with stability amid uncertainties - and the loss of matchday revenue - caused by the pandemic.

However, rival broadcasters may object to being denied the right to bid, and such a move would require government approval, given concerns over competition law.

Karim Benzema On Target As Madrid Secure Draw Against Chelsea In Ucl Semi’s

Karim Benzema came to Real Madrid's rescue again, his acrobatic volley earning them a 1-1 draw against an impressive Chelsea side in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

Christian Pulisic grabbed Chelsea an away goal in a soaking wet contest at Valdebebas but Madrid will be satisfied too, after recovering from a chastening opening half an hour before Benzema's brilliance left the tie in the balance.

Eden Hazard was given 24 minutes off the bench against his former club but despite some twinkling touches, he was unable to add a late twist.

By the time the Belgian entered the contest, it was drifting, the early adrenaline lost, with both teams seemingly content to defer to the return leg at Stamford Bridge next Wednesday.

Benzema's goal was his 71st in the Champions League, making him the joint-fourth top scorer in the competition's history with Raul, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.
