Mourinho Appointed Roma Head Coach Ahead Of Next Season

AS Roma have announced  in a statement that Jose Mourinho will join Giallorossi as Head Coach ahead of the 2021-2022 season on a 3-year contract.

The news came on the same day the club confirmed Paulo Fonseca would leave at the end of the current campaign.

Mourinho was dismissed by Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspurs on April 19 after a series of disappointing results which saw the relationship between himself and the club's executives deteriorate.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea boss previously coached a Seria A side, beingb at the helm of affairs of Inter Milan between 2008 and 2010.

He guided the Nerazzurri to two Scudettos and a Champions League Triumph during his stint at San Siro.

There was a coincidence in Roma's announcement coming just two days after Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri had endured 11 barren years since Mourinho's departure, having won back-to-back Serie A titles during his time as manager, including a league, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble in 2009-10.

"Thank you to the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and to be part of their vision", Mourinho told the club's official website.

Mahrez Double Sends City To Maiden UCL Final

Manchester City reached their first Champions League final as they overcame Paris St-Germain at Etihad Stadium to secure a commanding victory over two legs.

In a game played in unseasonal snow, the brilliant Riyad Mahrez capped a sweeping move started by goalkeeper Ederson's 60-yard pass to extend their 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Paris.

PSG suffered a serious blow before kick-off when world-class forward Kylian Mbappe was restricted to the bench because of injury.

They were initially awarded a penalty for a handball by Oleksandr Zinchenko before it was correctly overturned, but with Neymar subdued and City throwing bodies on the line in defence, Mauricio Pochettino's side could not find a way through.

Mahrez punished them again just after the hour when he turned in Phil Foden's cross at the far post to effectively end the contest.

PSG, as they did when Idrissa Gueye was sent off late in the first leg, lost their discipline and Angel di Maria was shown a red card for a senseless stamp on Fernandinho following a touchline tangle.

City were in full control, avoiding further mishap to set up the Champions League final they and manager Pep Guardiola have craved, against either Chelsea or Real Madrid in Istanbul on 29 May.

Sergio Ramos Fit To Feature In 2nd Leg Of Ucl Semi-Final

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has been declared fit to face Chelsea in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg.

35-year-old Ramos, has not featured since picking up a calf injury in March.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane said: "We've got our leader and our captain with us. I won't be taking any risks. Sergio is here with us. That means that he's ready to play, that's all it means."

The Spanish Giants are chasing a 14th Champions League title and their first final appearance since 2018.

For Chelsea, defender Antonio Rudiger is in contention but will have to wear a protective mask.

The centre-back, 28, missed Saturday's win over Fulham after picking up a late injury in the 1-1 draw in Madrid.

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, but the Blues otherwise have a fully-fit squad as they look to reach their first Champions League final since 2012.

IPL Suspended After Rise In Covid-19 Cases Among Players

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been suspended after an increase in coronavirus cases among players.

A Sunrisers Hyderabad player tested positive before Tuesday's match against Mumbai Indians.

Monday's match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was postponed after two KKR players tested positive.

In a statement, the IPL said it had "unanimously decided" to postpone the season after an emergency meeting.

"The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organizing the IPL," it said.

"This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind.

"These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times.

"The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021."

Wednesday's match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had earlier been called off after Chennai bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji tested positive.

Over the weekend, India recorded its highest daily coronavirus death toll since the pandemic began.

The country has recorded more than 200 million cases, and so far reported more than 222,000 deaths from the virus.

The IPL was taking place across six venues in India, with players travelling between them on charter and private flights.

Teams are staying within secure areas of hotels and resorts in the various cities and do not have contact with people outside the bubble.
