Fulham Relegated After Burnley Loss

Fulham were relegated from the Premier League after suffering defeat at Burnley that saw the Clarets secure their top-flight status for another season.

For the first time in the Premier League era all the relegation places have been confirmed with three games to go, with the Cottagers joining Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion as the clubs to drop into the Championship.

The damage was done before the break as Burnley struck twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half at Craven Cottage.

First the Clarets hit their hosts on the counter-attack as Matej Vydra showed neat footwork before picking out Ashley Westwood to roll the ball into an empty net.

Chris Wood then lashed in a second from the edge of the area to score his 50th goal for Burnley and consign Fulham to the drop.

It leaves Scott Parker's side 10 points from safety with three games remaining and heading back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Burnley, who will play Premier League football for the sixth successive season, have now climbed to 14th in the table.

Rory Mcilroy Wins First Title Since 2019

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy ended his winless run by clinching the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow for a third time - just six weeks after starting work with coach Pete Cowen.

The world number 15, whose last success came in November 2019, shot a closing 68 to win by one shot.

There was scare for McIlroy, 32, at the final hole when he took a one-shot penalty but made a decisive bogey.

"It's just awesome - it feels like a long time since the last win," he said.

Abraham Ancer finished second with Victor Hovland and overnight leader Keith Mitchell in a tie for third on eight under.

The victory is perfect preparation for McIlroy's bid to win a third USPGA Championship later this month, with the Ryder Cup player aiming to secure a second success at Kiawah Island.

West Brom Relegated After Defeat At Arsenal

West Bromwich Albion have been relegated from the Premier League for a fifth time after a defeat at Arsenal that keeps alive the Gunners' slim hopes of qualifying for Europe.

Sam Allardyce's side were already virtually down but their return to the Championship is now confirmed, with the Baggies sitting 10 points from safety with three games remaining.

Emile Smith Rowe volleyed a smart opener from Bukayo Saka's cross in the 29th minute after Arsenal had stemmed the visitors' promising start.

Nicolas Pepe made West Brom's task even more difficult six minutes later when he cut in from the right and curled into the top corner to double Arsenal's lead.

Matheus Pereira gave the visitors hope, running from his own half to score a superb individual goal with 23 minutes remaining.

But it was not enough to stop West Brom suffering a joint-record fifth Premier League relegation, with Willian adding a late third for Arsenal from a free-kick.

Victory means the Gunners, who were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday, do at least still have a mathematical chance of playing European football next term.

Real Madrid Denied La Liga Top Spot By Sevilla

A late Diego Carlos own goal earned a point for Real Madrid against Sevilla as the defending champions were denied top spot in La Liga.

Toni Kroos' shot in the 94th minute deflected in off Carlos as Real levelled for a second time to go two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

Fernando put Sevilla ahead midway through the first half after slotting in from Ivan Rakitic's knock-down.

Substitute Marco Asensio equalised for Real before Rakitic scored a penalty.

Rakitic's spot-kick came after Eder Militao was penalised for a handball following a video assistant referee review, but only after Karim Benzema had been brought down in the penalty area at the opposite end by Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou during a frantic few minutes.

Benzema appeared to have put Real ahead after 12 minutes with a header from Alvaro Odriozola's cross, however a VAR review found the full-back to be marginally offside.

Two points now separate Spain's top three - with Barcelona, in third, level on points with Real - with three games remaining.
